Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Smith of the Wallace Creek Community have announced the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Marie, to Charles Pierce of Bastrop, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ben Pierce formerly of Bend.

Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Simon of Bryan spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. W. C. White in Cherokee and attended graduation exercises in Llano of which their son, Cleburn Simon, was a member. Cleburn will attend A&M College in the fall.

Mr. and Mrs. John B. Preston and Bill, Kirk and Stephen of Victoria were Friday night guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Oliver and to attend the San Saba Commencement Exercises of which their daughter and her husband, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Oliver, were class members.

The San Saba Senators lost their first game of the season here Sunday when St. Mary's of Brownwood defeated them 11 to 8, according to Earl Jackson, manager. The Senators defeated St. Mary's earlier by a score of 6-2, but were slowed down by the visitors this time. Felix Ramirez and Ed Crim each scored three runs and Kenneth Crim scored the other two runs. The Senators were at bat 30 times, made 8 hits, and 8 runs, according to Jackson.

Miss Kay Sullivan, 1960 State Pecan Queen, will represent San Saba in Llano's annual Rodeo which opens their three-day Western Show. Miss Sullivan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Sullivan, will be accompanied to Llano by W. Barney Sullivan, manager of San Saba County Chamber of Commerce.

The Honorable Mary E. Christian received her Certificate of Election as a Silver-Haired Legislator. She will serve a twoyear term helping formulate suggestions to the Texas Legislature on items that would be of benefit to all senior citizens.

Mr. and Mrs. David Taylor of Menard won a trip to Hawaii. Mr. Taylor is employed as manager of Super S. Foods in Menard. Mrs. Taylor is the former Bernice Miller and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Miller of Richland Springs.

The Texas Association of Private Schools (TAPS) has named Linda Paredez of San Saba High School to receive a full-tuition scholarship in Executive Secretarial at Central Texas Commercial College. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Abel Paredez.

The Richland Springs Elementary and Junior High students traveled to Lohn for their annual University Interscholastic League (UIL) competition for the West Zone. The elementary school took first place with 230 points while the junior high won third place with 120 points.

San Saba High School's Valedictorian, Shiloh Mayes, and Salutatorian, Vieney Hernandez were first in line as graduating seniors filed into the First Baptist Church for Commencement Exercises. Storm warnings caused the graduation to be moved inside from Rogan Field where it is usually held.

Each year the San Saba All-Sports Boosters holds a banquet for all athletes so that they might receive recognition for their endeavors for the past year. Names put on the plaque for 1990 are Tina Pulatie, track; Ginger Woodruff, tennis; James McNeely, golf; Christine Ragsdale, golf; Shiloh Mayes, basketball; Dane Amthor, basketball and tennis; and Scotty Crawford, track.
