Josephine Kirkpatrick Petty and Andrew Petty marked their 62nd wedding anniversary Tuesday. She is a Crockett county native. He of Caldwell. He knows the exact date he came to this country––February 2, 1885. With 75 years here to his credit we will accept him as a full fledged San Saban. We wish the Pettys many happy returns of the day.
James Smith, Cherokee high school junior, heads the list of the State's Top 10 in Track, in the 100 yard dash, clocking a record of 9.6.
Joe Edmondson and daughter, Anita, his fishing partner, caught three yellow catfish weighing 26, 22 and 15 pounds, a total of 63 pounds of fish. The fish were caught in the Colorado river in Pecan Grove community. TRY THIS: When frying fish, three or four cubes of celery about an inch long dropped into the skillet will help eliminate odor and will not alter the taste.
Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Longmire of Rockdale recently visited in the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. W.
Longmire.
Carl Mack Carter of Tarleton State College in Stephenville was home for Easter with his mother, Mrs. Knight Carter.
The Pecan Swimming Pool in Mill Pond Park will open May 21. The City Council has named Coach Buddy Priest the manager another year, as the council members were well pleased with his work last season. A new diving board is being purchased at the low bid of $116 from Paddock Co. of Dallas. The Council also voted to have the pool painted before the opening date.
Scooter Buzz, a first place winning 1957 stallion, was judged the Reserve Champion stallion of the San Saba Quarter Horse Show held in April. The horse is owned by Val Gene Mize of Midlothian but has been trained by Floyd Bearden, who handled the horse in the show. Bearden has had the registered quarter horse in his custody for training since July 1959.

The Lady Coyote golf team won first place in District 13 golf. Advancing to regional competition will be Holly Crabbs, Felicia Fowler, Christi McKinnerney, Larissa Muncy and Stacie Smith. Christi McKinnerney earned first medalist honors with Holly Crabbs the sixth medalist.
Severeal Cherokee 4-H members competed in a recent 4-H style show winning several ribbons. Members who participated were Julie Kay Norman, Kari Ramnefjell, 4th place; Kit Smith, 2nd place; Katie Crenwelge, 3rd place; Marsha Crenwelge, 4th place; and Kara Whitley.
Betty Miller was presented with an oil painting that was donated to the San Saba Head Start by Polly Clayton for the purpose of a fundraiser for the organization. A special thanks was given to Polly Clayton and to all who participated in the fundraiser.
Elmer and Ollie House enjoyed a visit of their son Willard House and his wife Donna from Kermit for the Easter weekend. On Sunday afternoon their granddaughter Cheri House from Paducah visited for a while. She was enroute to school at Texas Tech University in Lub bock.
The San Saba Concert Band traveled to Stephenville for the UIL concert and sight reading contest. San Saba was the only Class AA Band that received a first place rating from all six judges.
Two San Saba Super S employees won the cash prizes from the "Happy Bucks" contest. Pearl Moreno received a $100 prize and Estella Soto won the $50 prize.
Kindergarten children enjoyed their annual boat float and egg hunt at Mary Jane Dennis' house. There were sixty or more boats floating with children on both banks urging them along so they could pull them out and go again. Some children thought they'd floated their boats "a hundred times." After floating boats they had a picnic lunch, a long walk in the country, egg hunt and Mrs. Fuentes brought a piñata and all had a very good time.
