Springtime in San Saba finds one of the brightest spots in the city at the old brown stone jail, where Mrs. Will H. Doran, wife of the San Saba County sheriff, has very successfully grown huge red geraniums in the many window boxes and in the large flower beds there each year for the past several, and this year her plants have reached such proportions in both size and quantity that she is placing them on sale at a downtown location, leaving dozens of them at the county bastile, where they will not only adorn the Doran living quarters, but the exterior of the building and the grounds as well. Help in the cultivation of these and other flowers and the large vegetable gardens at the jail has been given by trusty prisoners there and by a couple of college sons of the sheriff when they are not in school or working elsewhere, and locally it is generally conceded that San Saba’s sheriff’s wife has one of the most cooperatively working groups here.
