Persons who were living in San Saba county prior to Dec. 31, 1951, now can refer back to the "good old days" when the mournful whistle of the old steam locomotive could be heard echoing down the valley. Beginning Dec. 31 that sound was replaced by the powerful blast of airhorns on sleek, powerful Diesel engines which have permanently displaced the old steam-driven locomotives on the Santa Fe line through San Saba.

With community involvement in mind, the San Saba News & Star went to San Saba's youth to see what projects they would like to see built into the park. Upon reviewing the written responses, we were informed that young people of San Saba would like to see the water fountain replaced, basketball and volleyball courts, a gazebo, tennis courts, baseball and softball fields, bowling alley, skating rink, children's playground, some type of fitness or exercise center, soccer field, small water park, recreational buildings or coliseum for music or concerts, walk-in movie theatre, game room, community or dance center, weight room, and even miniature golf course were suggested. The young people of San Saba all agreed that if there was somewhere to go, or something to do it would cut down on several problems surrounding their generation.
