December 19, 1946

The San Saba basketball team defeated the Richland Springs team in Richland Springs Tuesday evening in a scrimmage game. The "A" team led by hot shot Alfred Dacus downed the Richland "A" team 20 - 11. The "B" team, paced by high point man Otis Hopson, downed the Richland "B" team 32 to 12. The boys playing in the "A" game wee Alfred Dacus, Chas. McDoniel, Bobby Wilson, Glenn Neeper, Frank McLaughlin, and Dave Laughlin. The "B" team was composed of Joe Hartley, Otis Hopson, Bill Nalls, Richard Wright, Haskell Brown and Jas. Reavis.

The movement of turkeys from this county for the Christmas market has been largely completed, according to Laurence Hamrick, manager of the Richland Springs Produce Co., a branch of the San Saba Produce Co. which has been one of the largest buyers in this section.

Iron posts have been secured by the San Saba Junior Chamber of Commerce for use in designating and naming the streets of San Saba, it was stated here by Ace Howell, Jaycee Secretary. The city council had approved the use of posts as well as the work being completed for placing numbers on all houses in the city.

Joe Frank, a seven-pound son, born to Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Fulcher Dec. 6, at their home in Richland Springs, is enjoying his Christmas splendor.

String after string of colored lights swing from the tops of the stores across the main street which also is Highway 190. Window after window is filled with many glamorous and useful gifts of the season.

A record crowd for a football game is anticipated for the Pecan Bowl Game here on New Year's Day, it is stated by fans, who anticipate a good game between the San Saba All-Stars and the Goldthwaite All-Stars at Rogan Field. Several bands in the area have been invited to take part in the program.

Arch Clements, former oil consignee here, is opening a real estate office in the Van Sadler Bldg., on the northwest corner of the plaza, as soon as remodeling is completed.

December 16, 1976

The San Saba 8th grade boys defeated Brady 29-20 in a game played at San Saba. Leading the Armadillo charge was Joe Perez with 8 points followed by Eddie Cantu and Tommy Adams with 6 each, Lewis Vasquez 4, Dub Johnson 3, and Shay Hardy 2. Underwood scored 11 for Brady.

City Secretary and Mrs. H. M. (Sonny) Boswell Jr. announce the birth of a son, Bucky Ray, Dec. 7 in San Saba Memorial Hospital. He weighed eight pounds, two ounces. The young man is welcomed at home by a brother, H. M. III, age 4. Mrs. Boswell is the former Carolyn Hulme.

Mr. and Mrs. L. E. McCarty of Priddy will observe their 65th wedding anniversary with an open house in their home.

Winnie Brown, San Saba Librarian is asking that all overdue library books be returned as soon as possible. "We need these books returned," Winnie said. "There will not be any penalty fines on the overdue books." The San Saba County Library is now open at its old Courthouse location at the regular hours until fire damage at the Rylander Memorial Library building is repaired.

San Saba County Deputy Sheriff Frank Finch who lived at Richland Springs and worked in the Central Texas Council of Governments Criminal Justice Program has been re-assigned to Harker Heights. His last day of service in San Saba County was reported to be Dec. 10.

The story on the "Case of the Missing Brisket" certainly convinced Larry Hibler that the San Saba News & Star has a wide circulation and is well read in the area. "People from about every county around here have come in asking about the man who put the brisket under his shirt," Larry said. "They have come from all over asking about it. People sure read the newspaper." Thanks Larry, that's what we want everyone to do. We just hope nobody else wants to walk off with another tray of brisket. At last report the man had not returned on his own to make up for the theft so Larry might have to take further action.
