Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Edwards and Arden spent Thanksgiving in the home of his sister, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Maultsby, in San Antonio, and attended the Trinity-Texas Western football game. Their son, Joel Edwards, who attends Trinity University, spent the Thanksgiving holidays at home.
Henry Benham of Fort Worth came to San Saba and was joined by his sister, Mrs. F. B. Hall Sr., on a tour of points of interest in Baton Rouge and New Orleans, La., and Galveston. They also visited Newt Hall in New Roads, La., and John Hall in Bunkie, La.
Barney Sullivan, who is supervising the gathering and shipping of the Bagley pecan crop in the vicinity of Seguin, writes that the has shipped one-half of his quota so far, but the second half will be slow. "It looks like I'm stuck here until January," he added, "I sure miss all the gang along the street––give my regards to all." Guadalupe county will produce between two and three million pounds of pecans this year, Sullivan said.
House guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ferrell during the Thanksgiving holidays included their son, John Ferrell, from Tarleton State College, and Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Sanford and children from Houston. Mrs. Sanford is a sister of Mrs. Ferrell.
A group of Cherokee residents cooperated recently in providing the boys of Buckner Boys Ranch near Burnet with a fine Thanksgiving dinner, and were heartily thanked for their efforts in a letter from Gordon S. Taylor, supervisor.
Dorian McGregor of Richland Springs and Kenneth Brandenberger of San Saba, outstanding 4-H Club members, recently were presented with Gold Star Awards, highest county honor bestowed in the 4-H program. Miss McGregor is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Taylor McGregor of Richland Springs, and Brandenberger is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dayton Brandenherger of San Saba.

Lightning flashed and thunder boomed across San Saba County and the Central Texas Hill Country as the first rains fell since Nov. 8 when 1.42 inches were recorded.
Three men were apprehended in San Saba Friday for theft of over 400 pounds of pecans from Alan Sides in Goldthwaite. The three suspects were placed under $1,000 bonds by Judge Harvey Reeves, San Saba Justice of the Peace, and were transported back to Goldthwaite by the Mills County Sheriff.
Mr. and Mrs. Ken Taff are new owners of the White store in San Saba. The previous owners were Mr. and Mrs. Buster Martin. A grand opening sale will mark the event which will be held Dec. 2 and 3, which includes free door prizes. The Martins have concluded more than 30 years of service to San Saba. Taff resigned his position as San Saba Hospital Administrator to manage the business.
The title of Mr. Spirit was bestowed upon Steve Holland at the annual San Saba High School Homecoming game. Holland is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Holland.
The San Saba Dairy Queen has once again had their colorful red and white fence caved by vandals deliberately driving their vehicles into the fence, breaking posts and knocking it over. The destruction occurred the night before Thanksgiving. The fence bordering the parking area has been repaired several times previous but this has been the heaviest single damage on both sides of the lot.

Recipe by Mrs. Mildred Patterson.
1 lb. powered sugar
1 stick oleo (melted)
3/4 of a 6-ounce can frozen orange concentrate (thawed)
1 or more cups pecans (ground)
1 lb. box vanilla wafers (crushed)
Coconut, if desired, 1/2 lb. in mixture, the other 1/2 for rolling balls in.
Mix thoroughly, shape into 1 inch balls, makes about 96 confections. These are uncooked.
Please do not rake leaves into the street! A city ordinance in San Saba requires that leaves and trash be sacked or bundled in some manner for removal other than placing them in the street in hope that the street sweeper will do the job. "The street sweeper just can't handle all the leaves," said James Reavis, City Secretary. "City crews will help all they can if the leaves are bundled as required."
