Miss Charlotte Norwood was honored as Band Sweetheart in halftime ceremonies Oct. 26 on Rogan Field, when she was presented a bouquet by Band President Billy Parker. Miss Norwood is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. G. Norwood of San Saba.
Miss Janice Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dor Johnson of the Spring Creek community, was crowned Football Sweetheart by Captain Clifford Wilson of the San Saba Armadillos in half-time ceremonies on Rogan Field at the San Saba-Gatesville game.
San Saba's cellar-dwelling Armadillos climbed to the heights last Friday night and chalked up a District 22-AA football win at the expense of the Hamilton Bulldogs. The count was knotted 7-7 at the end of the game in the Doggie kennel but a 5 to 1 penetration record gave the underdog Dillo the victory.
Two infants were born this past week at the San Saba Memorial Hospital according to a report submitted by Mrs. Frances Carter, director of nursing. A girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Kelly on Nov. 1, weight 7 pounds 1 ounce; and to Mr. and Mrs. Herbert N. Lambert, a boy, Thomas Edgar, born Oct. 30, weight 7 pounds 1 1/2 ounces.
Girls Scout Troop No. III met on their regular meeting day last week with their leader, Mrs. Jack Owen. The group and their leader hiked to Mrs. Tom Henry's and spent the evening. Cookies and drinks were served by the hostess to Eleanor Van Cleve, Barbara Zucha, Linda Moore, Chris Nance, Jane Felts, Ada Sue Brown and Rebecca Henry.
In spite of the cold weather a big crown of San Saba people attended the Hallowe'en Carnival at Rogan Field Oct. 31, according to Mrs. Stanley Reid, P-TA reporter. The carnival which was sponsored by the Parent-Teacher's Association, added approximately $400 to the P-TA treasury.
Showing at the Palace Theatre in San Saba, Texas–Walt Disney's Alice in Wonderland, brought to the screen in gorgeous technicolor by America's master storyteller.

Trick or Treaters, we commend you for your good behavior during the spooky season. I haven't heard of a single complaint. It is a good trait to respect the property of others.
The San Saba County Vocational School, an institution here for some 15 years, is drawing to a close. This school for veterans of War II and the Korean War, is one of 29 remaining in the state. "We will probably close in January of 1962," says Ray Harris, instructor.
Mr. and Mrs. Bob Smith and daughter, Mrs. Wahnee Rae Stallings and her daughter, Donna Kay, were weekend guests of their son, Don Smith, a student at Texas A&M College.
W. E. Lively of Cherokee, who has been in Austin since August attending Barber School, stated that he is progressing nicely and it won't be long until there will be another barber in business.
Bennie Lafferty, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Lafferty, of Richland Springs, recently was promoted to Petty Officer 3rd Class Radarman. He has just returned from 41 days at sea aboard the USS Newell and is stationed at Pearl Harbor.
Mr. and Mrs. Sipriano Saucillo of San Saba have announced the birth of a son, Roman, seven pounds and eight ounces, born November 4, in San Saba Memorial Hospital. The couple have eight other children, Tony 13, Paul 12, Lydia 10, Jose 9, Lucia 7, Thomas 6, Nancy 2, and Louis 1.
The Richland Springs Junior High football team closed out its season Thursday night at Rochelle with 31-0 victory. Boys participating were Pepper Wells, Guy T. Wood, Richard Tastch, Mike McMillan, Tommy Mueller, Keith Simpson, Billy Fred Schneider, Joe Hernandez, Bobby Bush, Billy Bush, Kenneth Land, Rickie Lusty, Rickie Baskin, Frank Pearce, Jack Turner, Michael Childers, Stanley Larremore, Floyd C. Myers, Gary Hyatt, Gary Dale Harlow and David Templeton.
Army PFC. James K. Snider, son of Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Snider recently participated with other members of the 8th Division's 16th Infantry in scenes for "The Longest Day," a film about the June 6, 1944, D-Day invasion across the beaches of Normandy. A machinegunner in the infantry's Company D in Baumholder, Snider entered the Army in December 1960, completed basic training at Fort Hood and arrived overseas last May. The 23-year-old soldier is a 1956 graduate of San Saba High School.
