A band concert, bathing beauty contest and several swimming contests will highlight the formal opening the San Saba swimming pool, June 4, according to Charles Chrane, pool manager. Pop Stanley and members of the high school band will furnish music for the occasion.
Friday has been designated as "Come or Send Day" at the City Park, where a big community work program is planned. Every San Saba merchant is being asked to do one of three things–come down and spend the day working; send one of his employees to spend the day working; or contribute $6.00 to hire someone to work that day improving the city park area.
Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Hall attended the Commencement Exercises at Texas A&M College last Friday, where their son, Tommy, was graduated.
Kenneth Pittman has opened a barber shop in the Schneider building. He is no newcomer here as the Richland Springs people will remember him as he made his home here for several years with his sister, Mrs. H. C. Lewis, and went to school in Richland Springs. He came from Las Vegas, Nev., to Richland Springs a month ago and is making his home with the Lewises again.
A-1c Milton C. Tyler and wife left the last of the week for Lake Charles, La., where he will be stationed for awhile. They have been visiting his parents, the Mack Tylers, since his return from Korea.
Mr. and Mrs. Carl Woodruff announce the marriage of their daughter, Delores, to Elvis Lee Delano of Lometa. The couple were married May 25 at the home of Dr. and Mrs. R. C. Tennison. Dr. Tennison, pastor of the First Baptist Church, performed the ceremony. The newlyweds plan to make their home Lubbock.

Jeff Sloan received his BS degree in Animal Science May 12 from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. Those attending the ceremony were: his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Sloan and his brother, Damon Sloan; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Sloan and Mrs. D. A. Cameron.
A bull fighting and bull riding school has been set for May 25, 26, 27 in Comanche. Rick Chatman will be the instructor. He is the cousin of Buster Hunt. Attending the school will be Allen Nelson, Ken McHorse, Damon Rogers and Buster Hunt.
The Junior High School Band students from San Saba traveled to Comanche where they competed in the Comanche Junior Band Festival. The band scored a I in Concert and a I in Sight Reading and brought home the Sweepstakes Trophy. A I in Band Competition is a Superior Rating which is the highest rating possible. According to Ken Rippley, band director, this is the first time in several years that the Junior High Band has competed. The 6th Grade Band also competed and received a II in Concert, which is an Excellent Rating.
Mr. and Mrs. Al Broyles had their Grand Opening this past Saturday at their new service station. Plenty of barbecue and all the trimmings were served to all and a drawing for gifts. We wish many years of success in their new employment.
Doug Finnigan, stationed at the Naval Training Center in San Diego, Ca., spent the weekend visiting his family, Mr. & Mrs. Jack Blossman of San Saba, Mrs. Forman of Pearsall; Mr. & Mrs. Danny Finnigan, Rhonda & daughter Kellie, Mr. & Mrs. Derick Finnigan & sons of Brownwood.
Five students from Richland Springs came to the San Saba High School cafetorium last week to pay a visit to the bloodmobile and donate blood. Their efforts were rewarded when they were presented with the Love Thy Neighbor Trophy which is given to the high school in the county who has the most students (percentage wise) to give blood. This is the first time the trophy has been taken from the San Saba High School students. Richland Springs students who participated in the blood drive are were Julie O'Neal, Rebecca Moore, David Smith, Jayme Lewis and Teresa Schneider.
