The first day of Spring was nice and we hope the fair weather holds out until after Easter. We don't want the ladies disappointed Easter Sunday. Nor do we want the kiddies disappointed should foul weather play havoc with the Jaycee-sponsored Easter egg hunt. We believe the parents as well as the youngsters look forward to the annual hunt.
A little gray kitten spent more than three weeks at the bottom of a dry underground rain cistern about four blocks west of the county courthouse, but was out again thanks to the efforts of an 8-year-old boy. Houston Graves, who lives with his grandmother, Mrs. Mary C. Gray, lowered food and water to his pet every day after the kitten was discovered in the cistern, and then last Sunday, with the help of an older cousin, effected the kitten's rescue. Kenneth Gray, 15, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Gray of near Cherokee, visited Houston Sunday, and together they worked out the rescue plan. Kenneth tied a rope around Houston's body and lowered him into the cistern to bring the kitten out. Whether the kitten fell into the cistern or was thrown in is not known.
