80 Years Ago February 7, 1946

We call special attention to the advertisement of an exserviceman, John Jennings, who does automobile painting and fender work. He will appreciate your business. Located opposite the Hall’s Cold Storage in the Isham Building.

Sherman Russell and Tony Krauss are making preparation to handle lumber and building material in the near future. They contemplate locating on the highway towards Llano.

The Park Chevrolet Company has placed the following men under the Veterans Rehabilitation Administration in their place of business: Arthur Gerschbach in the mechanical department and A. J. House in the parts department.

One of the largest building constructions is under way on highway 190 where Dean Warren has broken ground for a garage, residence and some dozen tourist cottages. The structures will be erected out of tile and be as near fireproof as possible. The buildings are on the former Baptist Church site later bought by O. C. Summers.

40 Years Ago February 6, 1986

Baskin Insurance Agency, serving San Saba County for the past thirty- three years, has recently purchased the McKinnerney Agency and as of February 1 has assumed management of the accounts of the agency.

Dean Keith, Phillip McCain, Billy Vannoy, Lee McHorse, Eustacio Diaz, James Price, James Bezner, and Derk Lindsey are Boy Scouts who received their Eagle Awards and were honored at the Comanche Trail Council’s Annual Recognition Banquet in Stephenville.

The San Saba Armadillos had all hopes of play-off action dashed as they lost to the Bangs Dragons 57-56. The Dillos played one of their finest games of the year and led the game until the last 20 seconds.

Following several incidents where the San Saba County EMS responded, San Saba Police Chief Bennie Fishback had nothing but praise for the volunteer emergency service. In commending the organization for an outstanding job Fishback said, “They always arrive promptly and seem to always know exactly what to do. They are an organization of volunteers who really care about their community and have the expertise to do a great service.”
