Mrs. Sallie Joiner, wife of the late Jordan Joiner, celebrated her one hundredth anniversary July 27.

We failed to mention the thorough manner in which Willie Wilson, Wat Brown, Edward Johnson and Herbert Nix distributed the Daily Star during the fair. These boys are courteous and hustlers, two very essential points of success in the battle of life.

A few close friends of Mrs. J. E. Odiorne were delightfully entertained at her pretty home. The invitations revealed a Dutch lunch interspersed with a few catchy games of fortytwo. An auto ride concluded the afternoons pleasures and it is useless to say the guests are profuse in their praise of the charming hostess and her enviable ability at entertaining.

After asking Bert Murphy the name of the young lady in his company, we got the whole story. Certainly he didn’t see any Fair! His companion was a charming young lady of San Saba, who decided to change her name from Miss Mettie McConal to Mrs. Bert Murphy. Mr. Murphy deserves much credit, he having suggested the change.

80 Years Ago August 9, 1945

Mrs. Dora Maultsby had her place of business closed for a few days and is giving the Oasis a complete overhauling with new paint and other improvements. Mrs. Maultsby serves a large clientele and is an expert cook.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter McFall recently attended the graduation exercises at Howard Payne College, Brownwood, when their daughter, Miss Earline McFall, received her B. A. degree.

Wounded in action with the 25th Infantry (Tropic Lightning) Division on Luzon, Pvt. Sipriarno Flores, son of Carlos G. Flores of Lometa, Texas, has been awarded the Purple Heart and is now back in action with his veteran combat unit.

Newly assigned command nurse of the AAF Eastern Technical Training Command is Capt. Myrtle I. Wood, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude B. Wood of Richland Springs, Texas, and veteran of eight years service with the Army Nurse Corps.

Major James J. Dailey has received his discharge from the Air Corps, according to a message received by his wife, the former Vivien Lively. Major Dailey has been in the army for three years. He is the son of Dr. and Mrs. J. L. Dailey.
