July 29, 1965

BMI Lawrence J. Ohnheiser, of the U. S. Coast Guard, his wife and children, Joey and Karen, have returned to the States following a two-year stay in Puerto Rico and visited with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy L. Teague Sr. Ohnheiser was stationed on an 82-foot Cutter that escorted “Lady Bird” Johnson while she was in the Virgin Islands.

Mrs. Vivian Handy visited in Bertram with her mother, Mrs. Pearl Frost, and also with Mrs. Rogers Handy and daughter, Cynthia, and her sister, Mrs. Ruby Lozano, all of McAllen, who were guests in the Frost home.

San Saba All Stars, under the management of Thomas Smith, Ben Ray and James Reavis, took the championship trophy of the Llano Little League Tournament when they defeated Marble Falls All Stars 17-7.

San Saba firemen were called to a grass fire at Algerita. The fire endangered several homes in the area and some sheds and fence posts burned before the grass fire could be brought under control.

Members of City Council elected B. B. Smith as night watchman to succeed the late Oda Hyatt. Smith, a native of San Saba, has been employed as janitor for First Methodist Church for the past few years.

August 1, 1985

Lito Lopez represented Cherokee at the Six-Man All Star football game at Stephenville. Jackie Goble represented Cherokee in the Queens Contest.

Arthur Hall, volunteer fireman of the San Saba County Volunteer Fire Department is attending the 56th Annual Texas Fireman’s Training School.

Ron Ragland’s TV Shop, located on Wallace Street in San Saba, was burglarized. Burglars entered the business through a broken window and took approximately $2,000 in car stereos and radio equipment.

The 1985 San Saba High School Dilloettes Drill Team attended American Drill Team School. Team members include Cindy Cantu, Lt., Jr.; Marcie Westerfeld, Lt., Jr.; Sonia Reyes, Capt., Sr.; Julia Ramirez, Soph.; Angela Miller, Jr.; Denise Rainbolt, Jr.; Karen Seabrook, Sr., Sylvia Zepeda, Sr.; Maria Robertson, Fresh.; Traci Ragland, Jr.; Cristy Thornton, Fresh.; Cathy Van Cleave, Sr.; Alicia Lackey, Jr.; Kenna Boultinghouse, Sr.; Amy Martin, Jr.; Jennifer Ray, Sr.; Melissa Locklear, Jr.; and Christie Crim, Jr.

Donna Sue Goble and Mary Louise Randolph of Cherokee tied for class honors in the Texas State Licensing Board examination given by the Llano Licensed Vocational Nursing Education Program. Both scored 782 on their examinations. This means that 97.75 percent answers were correct.
