Down Memory Lane

110 Years Ago 

July 15, 1915

Robert Rich invited his little friends to meet at his home to share with him the celebration of his 8th birthday. About 25 or 30 gathered for the occasion and the afternoon was spent in playing different games and romping on the lawn.

Sheriff Hugh Miller is in Waco attending the State Convention of the sheriffs.

The Richland Springs ball team will meet the Pecan Grove team in a practice game at the Ball Park, Sam Moore will pitch for the Pecan Grove team. Go out and give the boys a good crowd.

Simmons Drug Store had been doing some effective advertising for the Fair this week. There a great many travelers coming through now in autos and when an auto stops at the filling station at their store, a fair pennant advertising the Fair is put on each car.

N. A. Duey and family left for Uvalde county where they will reside. Mr. Duey makes the move in hope that it will improve the health of his wife.

W. J. Wilcox and wife, Mrs. H. E. Draper and Miss Francis Brazil were visitors to Cherokee. Mr. Wilcox went over to secure a residence in which to live. He has been elected musical director of the Junior College.

July 14, 1955

In observance of the birthday of W. Mark Sexson, founder of the Order of the Rainbow for Girls, members of the San Saba Order and their parents held a party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Patton. Sexson founded the organization on April 6, 1922.

Mrs. Jeff Lewis, a resident here since 1919, has sold her home and plans to move to Waco where she will build a home on a lot adjoining her daughter, Mrs. S. E. Burdette (nee Pearl Lewis).

Congratulations to Winnie Lou Kolb and Phil B. McCoury! They were married at Colony Methodist Church. A large number of relatives and friends attended the wedding.

Mr. and Mrs. James Brown have purchased the L. E. Lummus wreck of a house from fire several years ago and have torn the charred remains down and are building a new home on the lot located in the southwestern part of Richland Springs.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Ward and children, Madeline, Marilyn, Sharon and Tom IV of Ft. Worth are visiting in the home of his sister, Mr. and Mrs. Laurence Hamrick. They plan to spend part of their time vacationing on Lake Buchanan.
