110 Years Ago April 8, 1915
W. W. Woolsey of Hall was a passenger to San Saba and when questioned as to the nature of his business he blushed like a school girl and replied that he would not have to make many more trips.
Carlos Ashley entertained a few boy friends at his home with an Easter egg hunt. The pretty lawn at the Ashley home is an ideal place for such an occasion and a most delightful time was spent.
Quite a number of people were at Algerita to see the baseball and basketball games and to see the rooster that Rila Roberts and Dock Jones had eat corn. Everyone that wanted to could make a guess without cost as to how many grains of corn the rooster would eat and the successful guesser got a premium.
Last week witnessed the ending of the Sloan public school. Miss Effie Terry taught us a satisfactory school. At the home of Jym Sloan a dance was given for Miss Effie. Until the early hours of morning the young people tripped and ragged.
The beautiful and artistic windows for the new marble Methodist church have arrived and been placed and are indeed handsome and ornamental. They are of opalescent moulded or blown glass. The toning effect is almost indescribable blending from a rich topaz to a harmonizing russet and emitting a soft restful light.
60 Years Ago April 8, 1965
San Saba High School students won two first places, five second places and four third places in the UIL Literary District 7-AA Contests held in Llano, Principal N. R. Priest has announced. George Booker won first place in Number Sense and Roy Wayne Hale, first, in Science.
Mr. and Mrs. Pedro F. Rojas are the parents of Maria Theresa, five pounds, eight ounces, born March 31.
Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Ledbetter announce the birth of their first child, a daughter, born April 2. She weighed seven pounds and named Laura Leigh. Mrs. Ledbetter is the former Mabel Blair.
Mrs. J. C. Gamblin, Mrs. Bob Barclay and Mrs. Dee House were guests of Mrs. George Myers at a banquet given by the Rochelle Study Club at the Rochelle community house.
There were a number of nice catfish caught at the S. A. Baxter place as well as other fishing sights in Bend. Due to the heavy traffic during the weekends going to our many recreation places, it may soon become necessary to have a traffic director at the bridge and also main street. Two near serious accidents happened on the bridge.
Mrs. Lloyd Smith and Angie accompanied Mrs. Vivian Daily and Debbie to Austin where they attended a Flower Show then on to Dallas where Mrs. Dailey attended spring market for her dress shop in Lampasas.
