Miss Eileen Lillywhite, 22,daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick G. Lillywhite of Abingdon, Oxfordshire, England, became the bride of Cpl. Harley E. Barker, 25, son of Mrs. Ethel Barker of San Saba, Texas, at a beautiful double ring wedding ceremony in historic St. Michael’s Church at Abingdon.
When service men stationed at Amarillo Army Air Field were informed of the dire need for laborers for the feed harvest, one hundred soldier-laborers were sent to farmers within a month.
The first grandson to carry the Walters name for Judge and Mrs. G. A. Walters of this city was born to Mr. and Mrs. Mack Walters in Denver, Colo. His name is David Jerry and he is the first child for the couple.
Tollie Lemons has purchased a ranch in the Chappel section of this county and is moving to it. It will be remembered that he sold his ranch here to George Baker last year, but has been living on it till now.
A. Allen, trapping in the Thos. Sloan Turkey Creek pasture, caught in a trap a javalina. This is a Mexican wild hog, said to be untamable and very vicious.
During the recent bond drive we learn that Mr. and Mrs. Bill Barefoot took a $100 bond and Mr. and Mrs. Hillard Barefoot a $1000 bond. This comes out of pecans, then why deny the industry a place on the farm? Some earn $50 per day in Texas from pecans and plenty of people now earn $100 per day from pecans.

Harold Lock of Mullin visited A. R. Rowlett. They went deer hunting and Mr. Lock got an eight point buck. A. R. was in Mullin to help Harold do some work on a deer stand.
Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Wood are the proud grandparents of a grandson. The young man, born to Mr. and Mrs. Haynes weighed eight pounds, eight ounces, and hadn’t been named when the parents called. Mrs. Haynes is the former Sharon Wood.
Having the honor of being the first Little Miss and Mr. Pecan in the First Annual Pecan Festival were Tina Harvell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Harvell and Wayne Churchill, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Churchill.
The Pecan Festival held a Pet Show with various titles awarded. Troy Van Cleave was declared to have the “ugliest” pet. Vickie Bessent the “prettiest.” Todd Harding had the “largest dog” while Jerilyn Isham’s pet did the “best trick.”
Marisela Romero was named the San Saba Pecan Queen for 1975, the climax of the First Annual San Saba Pecan Festival. Miss Romero, 18, is the daughter of Mrs. Maurene Romero. First runner-up was Leslie Taylor, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Taylor of Richland Springs and 2nd runner-up was Melissa Watkins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Watkins of San Saba.
The new look at the San Saba City Cemetery can be attributed to a donation of over 100 pecan trees by Frank Hendrick to the Cemetery Association. The trees have been planted along the new fence line on property that was donated by the Bagleys and George Amthor.
