110 Years Ago February 12, 1914

Geo. Thornton of Richland and B. Simpson of Brady were here this week. The former selling real estate and the latter autos.

Winston Edwards passed thru town this week with 16 coming two year old mules which are prize winners. He has the best bunch of young mules we have seen.

A septic tank is being put in for the Clark building. Quite a number of these sanitary necessities are being installed in our town.

R. B. McCarty of Mercury was here this week. He says the late cold snap was severe on fruit and that he fears that his orchard suffered at least a 15 percent damage.

Mr. Will Brown and Miss Lena Nalls were united in marriage in this city last Saturday evening. Judge Hartley performing the ceremony. They are domiciled in their home in the southern part of the city.

J. L. F. Fentress won the first prize for the Southern Zone at the National Corn Show at Dallas this week.

Rosenwasser & Co., have packed their goods and will ship them to Fredericksburg where they will open a store.

Charlie Walters and family will leave in a few days for Uvalde. They will remain in that section indefinitely.

Gale Ivy was presented a beautiful plaque and received many comments for her excellent work as the retiring City Secretary. Approximately 40 people greeted Gale and enjoyed refreshments.

The only ones that have been noticed around the Price place in Bend, TX, taking the weather in stride are the little goats. They are more playful than when it is warm. Tree climbing is the biggest thrill for them right now and occasionally getting on the cars. They are great fun to watch when they are playing. Everyone needs a goat or two!

Valerie Gossett recently traveled to Comanche to watch her thirteen year old grandson, Shawn Skaggs, as he participated in the County Stock Show. Shawn earned a Reserve Champion with his heifer and is currently busy on the 'show circuit'.

The San Saba girls powerlifting team continued to have great success. We were missing three team members due to a band contest. All of our girls that competed placed the top five in their weight class, and scored team points. In the girls division: Shellby Buttler 3rd place, Shea Scott 5th place, Andrea Jimenez 1st place, Megan Jennings 3rd place. In the boys division: Julian Coronado 1st place, Peyton Johnson 2nd place, Nimo Vega 1st place, Jesse Franco 3rd place, Bryon Riggs 5th place.Nimo continued his 'unbeaten' streak. He has placed first in every meet this season.

Last week the Armadillos played their last two district games of the season. They traveled to DeLeon and defeated them 4032. Then they traveled to Hico and defeated them 38-27. With these two wins theArmadillos end district with a record of 8-2 and are District 12-ADiv 1 Co-Champions!!!! They are Co-Champions with Valley Mills who also had a record of 8-2. Dillo team members are Kelan Verette, Josh Cazares, Caelob Hardman, Garrett Welch, Holt Oliver, Ruben Aguirre, Kolton Ellis, John Welch, Austin McCombs, Chandler McCombs, Cosme Diaz, Coach McCombs and Coach Welch.
