60 Years Ago January 9, 1964

Bob McMillan, head coach for Richland Springs Coyotes and teacher of Social Studies in Richland Springs High School, has resigned his position with the school, Supt. Grady Baker has announced.

'I've sold out, lock, stock and barrel and plan to retire at the end of this year,' W. C. Dofflemyer, chairman of the board of directors of the San Saba National Bank, said a few days before the end of 1963. He rounded out 46 years of working with the bank. Dofflemyer sold his bank interests to Coleman Burnham, H. B. Clark Sr. and Wallace E. Hinyard thus it remains with the bank family.

Mrs. Mina Burke and her grandson, Stanley Walker, returned home from a visit in Houston with Mr. and Mrs. Ray Long. This was Stanley's first train ride.

Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Grozier were their children, Rev. and Mrs. Tom Grozier, Sheri and Tammy of Bellview, Nebraska, and Capt. and Mrs. Carl E. Holton and Steve of Austin; Mrs. Grozier's sister, Mrs. F. T. Curry and son, Nathan, of Cisco.

Dr. and Mrs. C. M. Oliver spent a couple of days in Dallas attending a trustee's meeting at Bucker Baptist Childrens Home. While there they visited their son and family, Mr. and Mrs. Charles M. Oliver and Susan.

The Cherokee Indian girls cagers won their fifth victory of the year at the Rochelle B Tournament recently to take the championship trophy of the tournament, according to Mrs. Billie Phillips, coach. The Indian girls defeated Rochelle, 48 to 23, and Eden, 54 to 20. In the game with Eden, Candace Cook scored high with 25 points, while Mary Ann Kollman scored 24 and Barbara Maddox, 5 points. Guards were Darline Crain, Sandra Kuykendall, Jo Anne McKneely, and Joyce Ray also played.

30 Years Ago January 13, 1994

Trey S. Shaw of San Saba is listed on the Dean's Honor Roll for the fall quarter at Texas State Technical College Waco. Shaw, a student in the Electronic Servicing program, is the son of Travis and Tama Shaw.

Charles and Jo Lynn Tharp had some family visitors over the weekend helping begin work on the Mitchel house they have recently purchased. They also helped Charlie celebrate his 13th birthday.

Larry Eugene Mayer of Richland Springs is a fall quarter graduate of Texas State Technical College (TSTC) in Waco. Mayer, a graduate of the Automotive Technology, has earned a Certificate of Completion.

Tim Adams, LB, a 5'10', 180 pounds junior, and Landon Sanderson, DB, a 5'10', 180 pounds senior, were the two Armadillos named to the 1993All-West Texas Class 2A Football Team. Adams is the son of Buddy and Connie Adams, and Sanderson's parents are Larry Sanderson and Kathy and Jimmy Don Edmondson.

Corrie Schulze, mascot for San Saba High School, was named All-American Mascot at summer camp. This entitled her to compete against 105 other mascots at NCA Nationals. Corrie is a senior and the daughter of Ronnie and Lesa Schulze.

There was a disturbance at the San Saba Detention Facility on New Year's Eve. Inmates were watching the New Year's eve festivities on TV and waiting for the ball to drop at midnight when some of them became over enthusiastic. They began yelling, banging on things, and then started throwing tables. The guards had to use a small amount of gas to break up the disturbance. There were 58 perpetrators and 6 victims who did not want to participate. There were no injuries except for some bruises. Total damage was estimated to be about $986.
