PROCLAMATION–Whereas: San Saba County realizes the team work involved in winning District Championships in football; and Whereas; The San Saba Armadillos won the District Championship in 2A Competition; and Whereas; only 2 of the 5 teams in the district could score on San Saba's mighty defense. Therefore; be it resolved that San Saba County salutes the San Saba Armadillos, their Coaching Staff headed by Lynn Stewart, and the Student Body and names Monday, November 28, asARMADILLO DAY.–THOMAS BOWDEN San Saba County Judge Mrs. C. E. Randolph, Corine Robbins, Katherin Kufahl, Pauline Maddox, Eloise Harris, Margaret Altizer and Irene Brown from San Saba went to Richland Springs to hear Mrs. Winnogene Harr from Brownwood speak about the Indian mission work in New Mexico.
Appearing several weeks ago in an episode of 'Dallas' was the grandson of a San Saba resident. Michael Ramsey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Ramsey of Mesquite and grandson of Mrs. Leota Shaw and the Late Frank Shaw of San Saba, was one of a group of camp counselors in the November 4 show and will appear in another episode.
Frank Thomas of Naples, Florida spent a few days last week with his aunt, Mrs. Knight Carter, the Carl Carters and Roger McGehees.
Robert Browning of the American Heart Association presents County Judge, Thomas Bowden with the Heart and Torch Award. Bowden is accepting the award on behalf of San Saba County for exceeding all previous fund raising records set by the local organization. CHOW CHOW by Grace Grozler 1/2 c. salt 1 peck green tomatoes 1 large cabbage head 12 hot peppers (optional) 1 qt vinegar 1 cup sugar 1 tsp allspice 1 tsp cinnamon 1 cloves Grind up tomatoes, add salt. Hang in net sack to drip overnight. Put all ingredients into a large pan and cook until tender.

The Cherokee FFA was visited by Ryan Cox and Shelby Eckhardt, the President and First Vice President of the Texas State FFA Officer Team. They gave an interactive presentation about leadership skills, and we all had a great time participating in the activities. We learned the power of communication through an activity with blindfolds and the importance of setting a good example for the younger members of our community.
The JC Campbell & Company Mercantile will hold their Grand Opening along with the San Saba Chamber of Commerce ribbon Cutting November 23rd. The Mercantile offers a wide variety of merchandise, including new clothing for all ages, antiques, collectibles, gifts, accessories, jewelry and handbags.
Dillon Brister, age 10 of Bend, shot his first buck, a nice 8 pt on his family ranch. Dillon used his great-grandfather's (Hilliard Barefoot) deer rifle to shoot it. Dillon is the son of Michael $ Gennifer Brister.
Bonnie Millican reported that she would like to have it be cold enough to do away with the grasshoppers. It seems she still is being plagued with them. The Bend did not receive the hard frost that hit San Saba, but there has been a light frost. Not enough to kill the grasshoppers that live around the Millican farm it would seem.
Joe Ragsdale, former San Saba Mayor, City Manager and distinguished citizen, addressed the council with the question of, 'Why did the Joe Ragsdale RV Park close?' Mayor Ken Jordan responded that it was the recommendation of the Parks Committee because they have other plans for the area and did not want it to be in competition with the new RV Park put in by a local citizen on North Live Oak. Ragsdale hated to see it closed and would like for it to be reopened.
