100 Years Ago September 6, 1923

Heywood Edwards who is a cadet in the U. S. Naval Academy at Annopolis MD., is at home on a furlough visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Edwards. Mr. Edwards has just returned from a long cruise and reports a very interesting trip.

Dr. Jos. Greer is now pleasantly located in the offices formerly occupied by Dr. Bass in the Clark Building.

Earl Carroll was in this community last week doing some top work for Jym Sloan in Mr. Sloan's celebrated pecan orchard.

Dick and Wade Ellis visited at Eden on the weekend.

Mrs. Mahala Ellis recently celebrated her ninety- third birthday. She visited her son John in the Baker valley last week.

Buster Pool recently paid San Antonio a hurried visit.

A nice rain fell Saturday night which we all appreciated. Most every farmer is gathering his cotton at present.

Misses Irene and Annie Mae Harris are spending this week with relatives in San Saba.

Mrs. R. F. Breazeale and family left this week for Waco where they will make their home. This good family has resided here for a long time and made hosts of friends here. We regret to see them leave here but wish them success and happiness in their new home.

50 Years Ago September 6, 1973

Newton I. (Ike) Tennison a 1954 graduate of San Saba High School has been appointed to the newly-created post of Dean of Instruction at Dallas Baptist College. The new Dean has been associated with DBC since 1968. In this post, he will be responsible for an innovative instructional program which makes wide use of audio and television media.

Catheryn Dismuke and Marjorie Shahan are the new owners of The Quality Shoppe originated by Miss Grace Baxter who established the business 26 years ago in San Saba. Its new name will be C&M House of Gifts. Remodeling is presently underway.

Russell Lane of Richland Springs was honored on his 78th birthday Aug. 16 with a dinner at his home.

Mr. and Mrs. George M. Amthor III are parents of a son, Jason Todd, Born Aug. 31, in San Saba Memorial Hospital. He weighed six pounds, 11 ounces. Mrs. Amthor is the former Billie Jeanne Perry. The couple has two other sons, George Marcus IV, age 4 1/2, and William Dane, 2.

David C. Russell, 89 had another birthday party complete with cake at the San Saba Nursing Home where he now resides. A former rancher he also spent time as a novelty salesman before retiring.
