Remember

As we look back at 2020, we are happy to see it go. Most of us, I believe, are excited to start a new year with all new prospects. As we say goodbye to a year that saw horrible things happening, we need to remember a few things that will help us this year.

First, we must remember our Creator. Ecclesiastes 12:1 states, “Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw near when you will say, 'I have no delight in them'.” (NASB) God is still in control and we must submit ourselves to Him.

Secondly, we must remember Jesus. (2 Timothy 2:8) Jesus came into our world and gave His life so that we might have access to the Father and a heavenly home when our sojourn on earth is over. Jesus was betrayed, sold, tried, beaten, wore a crown of thorns, was nailed to a cross, died and was buried.

As we remember Jesus, we also must remember that He was resurrected from the grave as He said He would be on the third day. He lives and reigns at the right hand of God in heaven today.

We must remember the love our God has for us as well. Romans 5:8 informs us, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” To make a sacrifice as costly as this, one would have to love deeply.

Another thing we need to remember is the Word of God. Paul said that though he was imprisoned the Word of God was not. We can read God’s Word and see what His plan for mankind is. The Bible tells us how to live our lives so that we can spend eternity with God. It is important to read and study God’s message on a daily basis. Acts 17:11 states, “Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scrip tures daily to see whether these things were so.” Did you notice they searched the Scriptures daily? Are you doing this? If not, today would be a good day to start.

We also need to remember the promises of God. As we read the Bible, we see God making many promises. We also see that he fulfilled them every one. We have a God we can trust to deliver on everything He said He would do.

Lastly, let’s remember Lot’s wife (Luke 17:32) As Sodom was being destroyed she looked back at the city. They had been told not to look back. When she did, she turned into a pillar of salt. She did not take God serious. Do we fail to take God serious? Do we fail to do His will? Do we think we cannot be lost? The Scriptures teach that we can. God loves us and wants only the best for us. However, we must submit to Him.

These are a few things we need to remember so that 2021 will be a great year for all of us.
