I am reminded of Mark Twain’s quote: “Rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated,” but recently they would not have been at all exaggerated. After 33 days in hospital ICU with COVID pneumonia, all I can say is: That was a very close call. My family and I want to express our deep gratitude for your caring, heartfelt expressions of love and concern. I am convinced that the many prayers offered on my behalf is the only reason that I am able to write this letter. Gratefully, I feel a little better every day, and I hope to begin working on a limited basis with the start of the New Year.
As I read the December 23rd edition of The San Saba News, I was troubled by Harold Yates’ ad in which I felt his criticism about my lack of decorations for our beautiful “dark” courthouse. I guess that I should expect it after his constant and bitter attacks during his unsuccessful campaigns for county judge, but it still amazes me. Surely he knows that I am not running for re-election since I have been very clear about that, yet his negative attacks continue.
There has been great interest from our local Historical Com mission to design and sponsor holiday decorations for the courthouse which we still hope to accomplish. Mr. Yates needs to be informed that judges are prohibited, by the Judicial Ethics Board, to solicit or accept donations from ‘donors’ as he recommends.
I look forward to serving you for this last year and take this opportunity to wish you all much Health, Happiness, and Success in the New Year 2022. May God continue to bless you and yours along with our beloved San Saba County.
