Alice in Wonder Land

Three months after Larry and I got married in Dresden, Ohio, on November 17, 1962, we moved to Memphis, Tennessee where he attended a lumber inspection school. Soon after we got there, I took a taxi to apply for work. When I got back home, our landlady who lived next door scolded me for riding in the wrong taxi. She told me that 'us white folks don't get carried in a colored taxi.' I was shocked because I was from Ohio where we went to school with and Larry had good neighbors who were 'black.' Since I was a child I was taught that God loves people red and yellow, black or white because they are precious in His sight. In the 1960's I believe the Mexican people that came to Texas legally mostly for work were not treated with respect. The people from Mexico that live in San Saba, Texas, now have been given respect although they had to 'earn it.' Mirla Reyes told me that their whole family worked in the fields planting and weeding when they came from Mexico to Texas. Mirla and I were with a group from The Father's House who went to Mexico in 2018 or 2019. My husband Larry didn't go on that trip because he went to Ohio for a friend's funeral. The Father's House has supported mission trips and financial support to San Fernando, Mexico. I have been sorting photos and smiled when I saw a photo of Joe Ragsdale, Naomi Ragsdale and Frances Herrington with plastic boxes that they filled and sent to the Bible Training School in San Fernando, Mexico, for the students years ago.

Numbers 6:24-26, The Living Bible....May the Lord bless and protect you; may the Lord's face radiate with joy because of you; may He be gracious to you, show you His favor, and give you His peace.
