    On May 16, 2024,the Rotary Club of San Saba held its 42nd annual Honor Student Banquet recognizing academically highachieving students from Cherokee, Richland Springs, and San Saba ISDs. Former Superintendent and Rotarian President Buck Gilcrease served as the Master of Ceremonies.

    This year's banquet speaker was Mr. Robert Baugh, Spiritual Life Minister at Cherokee Home for Children. Robert has served in the Youth and Family Ministry for the past 27 years. He described how he was adopted when he was a toddler by a family of faith. The secure home enabled him to overcome a difficult childhood and find his purpose in serving our youth.

    The Annual Honor Student Banquet is San Saba Rotary’s Signature Event with Rotary awarding a total of $18,000.00 in scholarships. This includes $3,000.00 in Scholarships for students seeking a degree in the medical field thanks to an EMS Endowment fund, and $15,000.00 in scholarships to our four-year honor students who exemplified high academic standards, good character and need.

    These scholarships were made possible thanks to the many sponsors of the annual Rotary Golf Tournament held in the fall.
