Columns and Opinion

Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor, I really enjoy getting the San Saba News and Star. The last thing I did before leaving San Saba in 2019 was to subscribe to the paper. I have been a resident at Texas Masonic Retirement Center for almost seven years. I have enjoyed receiving my paper every week.

The Richland Springs Report

I forced myself to leave the front porch and come inside to type the column. It’s beautiful outside, cool, not much wind and crispy clean. It’s cool enough outside that I will have to get Russ an extra blanket for the bed.

Hill Country Naturalist

When I was a kid, I was active in 4-H, an organization for kids sponsored by what is now called the Texas AgriLife Extension Service. During my time in 4-H, I raised several 4-H animals, and at one time, I was on the 4-H grass judging team for our county.

The Richland Springs Report

I left my lovely, breezy spot on the front porch to come in and send off this column. Russ and I sat there enjoying our tea and the breeze that came with a brief shower. What a refreshing feeling.

The Bend News

This past week we have had some very good rains, and more may be on the way. A total of over seven inches was reported from all the rains up to Monday. It didn't just come down all at once, but it rained over all of last week. The Colorado River is on a rise from all the rain.

Notes from the Spring Creek Arts Guild

I have been sitting here this morning with my hands folded in my lap, trying to both wake my brain up and calm it into some sort of order so that I can think of what to write about.

Dear Editor: Voting by mail should replace voting at the polls in its entirety. The two institutions that can definitely be trusted are the County Board of Elections and the United States Postal Service.
