As we look back on 2025, I am reminded once again of just how strong, resilient, and united San Saba County truly is. This year tested our community in unexpected ways, and every challenge we faced revealed the dedication, professionalism, and compassion of our Sheriff’s Office and the people who call this county home.
Along with the many challenges and accomplishments of the year, our Sheriff’s Office continued to serve at a high level:
• The Sheriff’s Office made 76 arrests
• The Jail had a total number of 166 booked
• Sent 20 individuals to TDCJ and/or SAFP
• Entered 67 arrest warrants
• Issued 1,616 citations and warnings
• Responded to 1,287 calls for service
• Completed 350 agency assists
• Took over 7,141 calls handled through dispatch, an 80% increase over last year
• Over 226 pieces of civil process documents served
• 337 transports conducted
• 1,057.9 hours spent on transports
• 26,692.3 miles driven on transports
• Total cost of Inmate Housing in 2025 was $333,746
• Processed 109 requests for records, including Public Information Act Requests
• 12.1 average daily inmate population
• Peak housing reaching 17 during the year While these numbers reflect a year of hard work and dedication, the true story of 2025 was written in the moments that required every ounce of teamwork, strength, and compassion our agency could give - especially when our community faced the severe flooding that impacted so many. During that emergency, our office worked around the clock assisting those in danger and supporting emergency management efforts to keep our community safe. Our deputies and staff showed remarkable dedication, compassion, and strength, often working long hours away from their own families so they could care for yours.
I am deeply grateful for the partnerships that made those efforts possible. Local volunteer fire departments, Hamilton EMS, Texas Parks and Wildlife, DPS, San Saba Police Department, county departments, surrounding law enforcement agencies, community organizations, and countless neighbors stepped forward to help. When San Saba County needed teamwork, we had it - and that is something to be truly thankful for.
Several months later, another major transition occurred when our Sheriff’s Office dispatch operations were moved. This change required tremendous flexibility, training, and determination from our dispatch team. Despite adjusting to new systems, new surroundings, and a different working environment, our dispatchers continued to serve with professionalism and steady courage. They answered every call, guided citizens through emergencies, coordinated critical responses, and ensured help was always available when someone needed it. Their resilience and dedication this year have been extraordinary, and we are deeply proud of them.
We were also honored to host our National Police Officer Memorial Day Service, a solemn and meaningful time to remember and pay tribute to the brave men and women who have given their lives in service to others. That spirit of honor, respect, and community carried throughout the year as our Sheriff’s Office continued building strong partnerships across San Saba County. We were grateful to take part in community-hosted National Night Out events in both San Saba and Richland Springs, and enjoyed participating in Trunkor- Treats, fall festivals, church events, and school programs. Opportunities such as school Career Days, along with other school and church engagements, allowed us to support, educate, and connect with our community members across the county.
During National Night Out, we were also humbled to recognize Deputy Morgan and Deputy Quarles with Life Saving Awards for their extraordinary actions that directly contributed to saving the life of a member of our community. Their courage, quick response, and compassion in a critical moment exemplify the dedication our deputies bring to their duty and to the people of San Saba County.
We remain deeply committed to supporting wellness and education in our community. Our Mental Health Deputy continued providing compassionate assistance to individuals and families in crisis, while also speaking at numerous community, school, and organizational programs throughout the year - helping educate citizens about available resources, mental health awareness, and support services. Through continued grant support, we were able to sustain this program, ensuring individuals in crisis receive the care, assistance, and compassionate response they deserve.
Government Funding & Grants In 2025, we were fortunate to secure several important grants that strengthened officer safety, enhanced technology, and supported critical public safety programs in San Saba County. Our office was awarded $15,332.03 through the JAG Grant for protective helmets and shields, and $35,916.00 through the Criminal Justice Rifle-Resistant Body Armor Grant, ensuring our deputies have essential protective equipment when responding to dangerous situations. We also received $19,200 through the MVCPA Taskforce FLOCK Grant, providing valuable technology to assist with crime prevention and investigative efforts -totaling $70,448.03 in grant funding awarded to the Sheriff’s Office for the 2026 fiscal year.
Additionally, we are grateful for continued assistance through Texas Senate Bill 22 funding, which once again made a major impact on our agency. SB 22 helped us purchase two additional fleet units to replace aging vehicles and assisted with salary support for our Administrative Clerk and Investigator. These investments directly strengthened our day-to-day operations and our ability to serve the citizens of San Saba County safely and effectively.
Behind the scenes, our administrative team quietly carried a tremendous load this year. From strengthening compliance and records management to supporting daily operations, they ensured our deputies and dispatcher/ jailers could stay focused on serving the public. Among their many contributions was the promotion of our new Jail Administrator/ Dispatch Supervisor, Marisela Gossett, who stepped into leadership during the flood and continued guiding our team through major transitions with dedication and professionalism. This growth reflects the strength of our people and the pride we take in developing leaders from within our agency.
We are also proud to share that K-9 Andor successfully passed his National Narcotics Detector Dog Association Certifications for Narcotic Detection and Police Service Dog in January 2025. He continues to play a vital role in addressing narcotics activity and supporting safer communities. We remain thankful to our local Tractor Supply Co. and the San Saba Animal Hospital for their continued support in ensuring his health and well-being.
Through every hardship and every ordinary day of service, one constant remains: our commitment to the people of San Saba County. We do this work because we care deeply about this place and the people who call it home. It is an honor to serve as your Sheriff’s Office, and we will continue working every day to protect, support, and strengthen our community.
To the citizens of San Saba County, thank you for your support, trust, encouragement, and partnership. You stood with us in 2025, and we are grateful.
On behalf of the San Saba County Sheriff’s Office, we look forward to continuing to serve you in 2026.
Respectfully, David L. Jenkins, Sheriff
