San Saba ISD maintains strong financial record as bond election approaches

San Saba ISD continues to demonstrate sound financial stewardship ahead of its upcoming May 3 bond election, maintaining a record of strong fiscal responsibility and transparency.

The district has received the 'Superior Achievement' designation— the highest rating from the Texas Education Agency— for its financial management. It currently carries no bond debt, having paid off previous debt early, and has reduced its total tax rate from $1.25 in 2019–20 to $0.67 today.

On May 3, voters will consider two propositions. Proposition A includes security upgrades, a new band hall, a CTE facility, and facility renovations. Proposition B proposes a 600-seat auditorium and weight room relocation.

If the bond proposals are approved, the district’s tax rate is projected to remain well below 2019 levels—$0.93, or possibly $0.83 if a proposed state homestead exemption is passed later this year.

Importantly, senior citizens 65 and older with the Over-65 Homestead Exemption will not see an increase in school property taxes due to the bond, per Texas Tax Code §11.26.

Early voting runs April 22–29. Election Day is May 3. More information is available at www.san-saba.net/bond.

We’ve heard about the town hall event scheduled before early voting and wanted to clarify that this is not a school sponsored event, and due to scheduling conflicts, no San Saba ISD representative will be in attendance.

At San Saba ISD, we are committed to keeping our community informed with accurate bond information. Feedback we’ve received indicated the town hall we held during our last bond election was an ineffective method of communication. This time, rather than a town hall, we’ve committed to connecting directly with voters through small group meetings, phone calls, email, mail, and social media. We believe this is the best way to share information, avoid misinformation, and address questions directly.

If you would like to speak with our Superintendent, Mr. Owen, or have questions about the bond, he is happy to meet with you. Feel free to reach out to him at kowen@san-saba.net or (325) 267-2731 to schedule a meeting. Additionally, our board members are available and would love to meet with community members throughout the week. Just give us a call to set up a time.

We want to make sure you have all the information you need before early voting (April 22–29) and Election Day (May 3). We’ll continue to share updates through mailers, our website, social media posts, the newspaper, and Parent Square as well as visit with you to answer any questions you have to help you make an informed decision.
