The Richland Springs Report

It’s been a busy week around Richland Springs. Congratulations to our football team in their win on Friday. Bi-district play is set for 7 p.m. in Comanche against Oglesby. Bring out your noisemakers, Coyote fans, and cheer the boys on to victory. Our two FFA teams that competed as well last week placed first and second in their divisions.

A fundraising luncheon was given on Sunday to earn travel expense money. The kids had a great turn out from the community, and we were treated to a demonstration of the skill needed to advance. Keep these kids in your prayers as they head to Fredericksburg on Wednesday to compete for area championship. A special word of thanks needs to go to Mr. Dennis for encouraging and training our students. His passion for FFA was apparent in his presentation before the students gave their demonstration. There are several basketball games scheduled this week as well. Somewhere along the way, we have our teaching goals to meet.

Did I remember to mention we are preparing for UIL Academic competition as well? I love our little school and our amazing kids.

The Tuesday quilting ladies and Bible study group had an all-day sewing meet. I suspect some of them are getting their Christmas exchange gifts ready for the early December Christmas party. I have not been able to get to quilting this semester. I miss this refreshing time.

The FCA group had a surprise guest speaker last Tuesday. Our new school secretary, Kim Danford, gave her personal testimony to the kids.

She is a cancer survivor, and her words kept the kids’ attention. I hope that her uplifting message will touch the hearts of some who may be experiencing opposition and depression. She is a jewel and an asset to our school. We didn’t think we would ever be able to replace Mrs. Mask, but I see good things ahead for our school with her loving positive presence.

I’ve been watching the Shiloh and First Baptist online services.

I’m glad to see that our churches are getting back to normal capacity. No matter what gets shut down, church should not be. I hate seeing myself on the screen, and listening is torture. But the joy of being with like-minded friends makes my day and week possible. I feel refreshed after praising the Lord and listening to a good sermon. I wish all of you out there would find a good church and spend some time with fellow believers. I should give a public warning at this point.

Warning: there are no perfect people in church; some you will not like. Go there to refresh and rebuild, and ignore what you don’t like. Praise the Lord and learn about His love for you. We are all there to get better; none of us is perfect.

The Christian Church is going to present its traditional Christmas program the first Sunday in December. They are calling for folks who want to sing or play an instrument. After missing out the last couple of years and recently losing our sweet Mary Kate Adams, they are going to keep this tradition going. Do we have any young folks out there who would like to sing or play a traditional Christmas song? Paula Sue Shannon will be in charge and answer any questions you have. I will post practice times in the next column.

My main prayer this week is for the southern border. Our nation is in danger as the flood of illegal migrants continues. Our troops need our prayers as they remain away from their families and face difficult conditions. Our country needs prayers as we face the increase of prices and shortage of materials. This economy is much more of a hardship on our lower and middle economic families. Our more affluent members don’t feel the pinch of higher gas prices as much. Please continue to pray for our police officers. Vera Ralston is headed for surgery early December. We have sickness in extended church and community families. A clothing drive is being organized for the Luna family in San Saba. Please keep our sick and shut ins in prayer.

Always remember the holidays are a time of great depression for those who have lost family or have no family. Please reach out and be a good neighbor to those around you who are alone. Stay safe, remember your Covid manners, and see you in Comanche Friday.
