I am loving the cooler October temperatures, and the giant rains last week were soul cleansing. This morning as I walked out to the car, the trees were greener, the sky was bluer and the air smelled fresh to my nostrils. What a miracle rain is to this earth. The amounts in the area varied. Johnny said he had 1.8 inches, but around my area, we had about four inches. The land was so thirsty that it didn’t even damage my road. I guess we will have to make one more cut to our yards.
Russ and I have almost finished the cover for my jet spa. It’s not the great big expensive spas with recliners, but it has 131 bubblers that feel great. Russ wanted a cover to protect the spa itself. I am looking forward to nice hot soaks after a grueling day at work.
Speaking of work, this Friday is the last Fifth Quarter. The theme is exterminate the Hornets. That sounds a little unfriendly to me, so I will go with swat the bugs and drive them away. Homecoming week is just around the corner. Time to get your mums and fancy costumes ready for dress up days. Don’t stay home Friday; come out and support our boys. We will be facing our archrivals from Rochelle and need all the fan support we can get.
October is breast cancer month. As a school, we usually have a big event to raise money for this worthy cause. Many of us can name a family or friend who has had to fight this horrible disease. This year we are doing something a little different. Since shaving is always an issue with our older boys, we are allowing them for the sum of one dollar per day to not shave. If you see strange looking boyish faces sporting facial hair, you will know the reason.
The ladies Quilting and Bible study will resume this Tuesday, the 5th, at 4:00 p.m. If you are looking for an early morning prayer group, Shiloh has a Monday morning meeting for all who want to spend time in fellowship and prayer. First Baptist will temporarily lose their pastor as his unit has been called down south. No time has been announced for his return. Please keep his family, and all other families involved, in your prayers. Again, I will see you at the Fifth Quarter Friday after the game.
I think the Bookfair went very well. Mrs. Barker was surprised with a farewell party on Thursday. Although she will be difficult to replace, Mrs. Stacy Kubin will be our new librarian pending board approval. She has some giant shoes to fill. I have no doubt leaving the library that she helped build and support has been a difficult decision for her.
Our families are always our priority, and she is needed at home. We wish you all the best in your new role, Valerie.
Fifth and sixth grades are busy next week. On Tuesday, the 12th, they going to San Saba for farm safety day, and then on Thursday, third through sixth grades are going to Inner Space Caverns to explore the cave and mine for minerals. We were hoping to zipline, but that was a little too risky for school insurance. We will still have an awesome day. At the end of the trip, we will be a little wiser about cave formations.
Our prayer list is long this week. Our first item is thankfulness for the rain. God blessed this area. There are multiple people fighting covid, some with serious outcomes unless a prayer miracle comes their way. Please pray for all the sick in our community. Heather Lewis is seeing a cardiac specialist and needs our prayers. Suzie Reynolds Gibson lost her stepdad to illness, and her mother is fighting illness as well. Lisa Larremore’s granddaughter is in the NICU and needs prayer. The Gibson family is mourning the recent loss of Red Gibson.
The list from all churches is extensive. Please pray for the sick in our community.
On the national level, we need to pray for our President, our Congress and their massive budget, our police officers, the crisis on the border and increase of hostilities around the world. I would love to see our mainstream media fulfill their role of investigators and reporters the way they were designed by the Founding Fathers. I pray for all our wonderful heroes in the medical field. I pray for civility and reason to prevail in our country. Most of all, I pray for our precious troops and their families. Check up on our shut-in neighbors if you have a chance. Have a wonderful week everyone.
