My summer is gone. Where? I don’t know. It just seems to have flown by without a thought for how I feel about the time passing so quickly.
Next week, the teachers will be back at work, and Friday the kids will drag themselves to school. I hope no one planned any August vacations.
I don’t feel as if I have rested, mostly because I didn’t get to travel this year. That probably sounds silly to some of you, but when I go away, I leave everything behind, no cares, no work, no chores, just rest and relaxation. If I’m home, I’m doing something. Oh well, no sense in moaning; it’s time to get back to work.
My inflatable hot tub is going to be a blessing. Russ says I’m a cheapskate, but I just couldn’t find it in me to spend big bucks for one of the big ones. I’m doing fine with this tub. It has 170 bubble jets, and I can tell it’s going to be a great help at the end of a long day. Russ has made me a nice path to and from the tub. I’m letting the sun heat it right now, but when winter comes, the heater will keep me toasty until I get out.
The Garcia family had a fish luncheon under the Tabernacle. It was open to all in the community. Mondo is a great cook, and Paula, Lane, and Savannah did the honors keeping everything flowing. It was a perfect day for it. The sun was shining, but a cool breeze kept the Tabernacle from being too hot. I noticed the Community Center was leased out. I didn’t see a sign for a family reunion, but that’s what it had to be. The Odie Capps family had a memorial service in the fellowship hall of the First Baptist Church. Young’s BBQ provided the main part of the meal, but church members added to the menu and helped serve the family. Nearly 70 members of the family and friends took the time to share stories and have a great meal. Odie will be missed. The Lusty branch was having its own reunion out by the river but spent time with everyone else at the church. I was able to hug all three of my sweet Lusty kids, Hutton, Bralei, and Keston. I love those kids. The Young’s BBQ meal was delicious. I can’t describe to you the number of delicious desserts that filled two tables. Thank you to the First Baptist volunteers who helped serve and clean up.
One of my pet desires for the school was a small car. I have driven to San Angelo numerous times in that big Suburban all by myself.
It’s not that it is a problem. The issue is the waste involved with letting one person drive that distance. As gas gets more expensive, that’s one more thing we will have to watch. I know it was a tough decision to make, but I’m glad I will get to drive a small vehicle instead of a huge one. Perhaps I will be the first one to take the new car to the service center since I have a training on Friday.
Mr. Womack is wanting us all to get absolutely comfortable with Google and Discovery Education. This old dog gets to learn more new tricks. I suspect in the back of everyone’s mind is the thought we may be forced to go virtual again. I am praying that will not happen.
The restaurant was not open on Sunday. I’m not sure why. I know they have some reorganization to do. One important issue is the need for a credit card machine. I know they were looking for more hired help. I’m not sure what position was needing to be filled. I’m looking forward to having a restaurant here in town.
I have my son-in-law, Bobby, down for the week. He’s working on his building site. My grandson, Jacob, and his son, Luke, are here as well.
There are tractors and machines buzzing all over the farm. I think we are going to take a break from the busy and head over to Lampasas in the middle of the week. Tracy wants me to sample the German food at Eve’s. She claims their schnitzel is mouthwatering delicious. I am looking forward to a good German meal.
I returned home from a visit with Tracy and the grandkids to find I was waterless. Since I had only been gone an hour, that was a shock.
Using a little deductive reasoning, I realized that Bobby’s tractor was parked over the water line. I have four men out there now determining what parts will be needed to repair the line. I have bottles of water, so I will be good until they fix things in the morning. Life is never dull in the country.
We had a planning meeting for the restart of Monday Church. It probably won’t start until the third week in September. Have no fear; we will get it started back so that the younger kids can have something productive to do on Monday. Keep your ears open though for an August treat. We’re hoping to introduce some new activities and programs.
Prayer is our greatest resource for problems. Please pray for our country, our government, and our President. I’m not sure why people want to flee from Cuba to the U.S. to escape Communism at the same time our progressives are actively seeking to turn us into a Marxist Communist country. It doesn’t make much sense. Where will everyone go if there is no U.S.? That issue needs much prayer. Danny Phillips, Sr., is headed to the heart doctor. It seems he had a heart attack but didn’t know it until it was all over. He has been battling severe sickness for some time. Gerald McKee is still taking cancer treatments as are several others in our community. We need to pray that our country gets back to work again. There are job openings all over.
Perhaps they should make the extra money available only to those who have a job. Time to think like Americans again. We could do with a little more rain, and a whole bunch less grasshoppers. They are stripping my roses again, and my desert willow looks like a skeleton plant. Enjoy this last week before school starts. Have a great week.
Please God, help America get back on track.
