2021 Spring break is here, and it came in with a roar. Last week I was amazed at all the blossoms on my apricot tree, and today I am looking at very few little white flowers left on my tree. Nature can be so cruel. On a brighter note, my fish tank/fountain has been full of cedar waxwings. I need to get a hummingbird feeder out too this week.
The hummers are supposed to be on their way north. The finches found the Niger seed bags, so they have been hitting them hard. We seem to have lesser and greater finches visiting the feeding station. As dry as it is, the birds are flocking to the fountain. Russ has his chair all set up so that he can get some pictures.
This week, was my youngest son’s birthday. I called to wish him happy birthday, and he was at a Middle Eastern restaurant in Dallas with friends. The menu didn’t sound like it would be one of my favorites, but it would have been worth a try. Next week is my eldest stepdaughter’s birthday. March is a busy Ransom month. There are a total of four birthdays in March. April is my eldest son’s birthday, and the day after his is my anniversary. It will be 49 this year. I find that totally amazing. My mom and two of my aunts died exceedingly early, so I never expected to make it to my 25th anniversary. I am 24 years into the bonus years. Marriage is a constant work in progress. I don’t believe there are any magic formulas, plain hard work, and determination to run the race to the end.
The Baptist men’s breakfast has been postponed to the 27th. Everyone is welcome to congregate in the Tabernacle for breakfast. Fred Overstreet will do the chef honors again, and they will begin serving around 7:00 a.m. If you want some good food, fellowship and male company, the Tabernacle is the place to be.
I’ve looked at all my options, and it appears that I will be staying home and doing spring cleaning. That is probably as low on my totem pole as you can go. I know for sure it is not on my bucket list.
We are still tossing around the idea of going to the Grand Canyon in July, but who knows what will be going on in this country. At least we are in better shape than my sisters in Canada. They don’t even want you traveling from province to province unless necessary. My sister Beverly thinks she will not get to see me until 2026 if states like Texas keep opening up. The reality of the matter is we are fine, and here in Texas, life is going on in a semi-normal fashion. I don’t know what the answer is to this pandemic.
The students went home with a note about Friday the 26th. The UIL competition date was changed last week, and now we will have to host the meet on Friday instead of Monday when we were out of school. The good side of that is we will not have to cancel Monday Church for the kids. We are on a three-week race to Easter, the most sacred Christian holiday. I hope to see many of you in church or online celebrating with your fellow Christians. Whatever else is going on with the world, we serve a risen Savior who has promised us life after death.
We have quite a few in the community who are under the weather and facing serious health issues. Gerald McKee is with Kay in Houston working out a plan for his cancer treatments. My son-in-law Mark is undergoing treatment for prostrate cancer; Mario Soto is also undergoing cancer treatment. Christina Trigg, Mondo’s sister is in the hospital in Killeen in serious condition. I did get a positive report on an ex-student of mine who was in a serious accident during the storm. He was in a coma fighting for his life for several weeks, but he is doing much better and will now be able to go for rehabilitation treatment. He is a walking miracle. They need to be covered in a thick layer of prayers.
Please pray for our country, the president, our congress and all the craziness that is going on in Washington and around the country. We need peace and a return to respect for one another. Please pray for our first responders and their families, but most of all pray for our precious troops and their families.
