Like the rest of this year, this school year is vanishing at a rapid rate. We are going into our eighth week of school. We have three of five home games completed in football, and one of the two remaining may not make. Before we know it, we will be in playoff season. My 5th graders had to work the concessions stand for homecoming. We were not scheduled, but a sickness in another class left the booster committee with no one to work. I was a little concerned since this is usually a terribly busy night. Thanks to parents in the McKinnerney family, my little ones did a super good job.
Way to go 5th grade. The game was a mercy rule game and was followed by the traditional Fifth Quarter meal at the Baptist Church.
We had a charming court of pretty ladies and handsome young men for the homecoming court. Homecoming queen was Madia Norris.
Beautiful women tend to run in that family. Did I mention the men are quite handsome and charming as well? One of this family is Hutton Lusty. Hutton was hurt in a training accident and is being treated for an arm that was broken in three places. We request prayers for this wonderful young man for a quick and complete healing. Coming Home King and Queen were Gerald and Kay McKee. Their daughter helped to pull off a complete surprise. It was a well-deserved honor. Bucky Lusty was also honored for his long-standing record of the most tackles in a game.
The Fifth Quarter was well attended, and once again the members of Shiloh and First Baptist provided a delicious meal for all who attended. Thank you to all those hard workers. I was delighted to receive a heartfelt apology from a young man who had been feeling his oats earlier in the week. We have some great kids. It made my day.
I lose track of my kids as they get older, but I never lose my love for them.
The local men met at the Baptist Church Saturday morning around 7:00 a.m. last Saturday. Fred Overstreet brought his big grill and treated everyone to homemade burritos, pancakes, bacon, sausage and fresh eggs. It was a good meeting, and our men are holding our community and nation up in prayer. We must add our President and First Lady to the prayer list. He is responding well to the therapies available and may even be released early. I pray both will get well quickly. Whether you care for him or not, we must all be civil.
Russ and I had a delightful visit from my youngest son, Shane, and his wife, Earnie. They brought along their two dogs, a French bulldog, and a husky. I believe the dogs enjoyed their romp in the country. Shane and Earnie have bought a motor home and are planning a trip to the Grand Canyon for Russ. Shane is trying to encourage Russ to travel with them. He knows how much Russ loves that canyon. I think we will go if possible. The rest of our kids are planning to come with us if we go. I want to go down the old Route 66.
COVID is coming to our little area. We have been reasonably clear so far, but the cases in San Saba have increased, and naturally it will spread here. We will be tightening the COVID rules even more at school. The nursing home has been so diligent about keeping their patients safe, but unfortunately the cases there are increasing. Please pray for this little community that is at risk.
The prayer list is lengthy. It also does not cover all who are ill. Marilyn Suber is headed for knee surgery, Donna Hill is recovering from her back surgery. We have multiple cases of cancer in various stages. Tiny Shannon, Jerry Wilburn Amber Moreno. Will Robinson, Pat Faught, Kim Danford and at least two others are working to be free of this terrible disease. Tommy Soto is in hospice care and is not doing well. Rob Brockman fell and hurt his back, and his dad, Bob, was not doing well this week. Robert Lewis just celebrated his 101st birthday. Everyone of them is special to this community, and I’m sure their families will appreciate prayers for their healing.
Please be aware there will be one more delivery of food boxes from the Farmers to Families program. This will be on October the 24th. This program has been such a blessing. Also, please remember that the Food Pantry is open on the first and third Mondays from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Please come by, and someone will be glad to fill a box for you. If you are shut in, you may call the church or parsonage to ask for assistance. Thank you to the Howler’s Club for donating towards this project. We are still well stocked from the student’s food drive.
They were a blessing for sure.
Please mark your calendar for the November elections. Your vote counts, and it is important. Our police offcers are in dire need of prayers, support, and protection. The state of lawlessness in our country is disgraceful. These men and women need to get home safely. Our firefighters had a successful fund raiser on Saturday; they need our prayers and support as well. I expect you will see some great photos of the rodeo events that were held on Saturday as well. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families. Have a great week.
