The Richland Springs Report

I was expecting a 97-degree sweltering Friday, and daybreak surprised me. The temperature was in the sixties and then came the two-hour downpour and another two hours of lighter rain. It washed my road out, but I’m satisfied with every rut in the road.

Chrissy and I are adding to our scars thanks to those lovely wild blackberry bushes. There is a considerable number of hog tracks, so we make sure we are safe. The wild plums are ripening, but the crop is not abundant. Chrissy loves to take my picture when I’m unable to avoid her camera. I’m looking forward to some delicious jelly.

Please don’t forget the Convoy of Hope food distribution on Saturday. The church is being used as a distribution point because of its proximity to the school. Our school families need to come and collect the bounty designated for our families. There is way too much food for the church to store.

Monday is the first day of VBS at the First Baptist Church. The members have been working hard planning the Monday through Thursday events. VBS hours will be 5:30-8:00 p.m. Feel free to bring your Pre-K through 6th grade to join us in our journey to learn more about Jesus.

Our local youth went to church camp last week. Coach Burkhart has been taking the youth for many years. This year, Jacey James went as a leader to the event she attended as a youth from 6th grade to 12th grade. It’s wonderful to see a life cycle complete. Each year, our elementary students come to Kid’s Church and VBS. Once they get to sixth grade, they take the foundation laid for them by caring church members and take the next step in their Christian walk. We have an amazing community.

I’ve been asked to see if we have enough interest to have a community meeting highlighting the Hendricks Medical community. They have made quite a few changes to their system and would love to have the opportunity to show them to our community.

Please keep the monthly potluck luncheon on the 28th of June. These lunches have been instrumental in accomplishing the changes we have made in the old bank building. The community center will be open by 9:30 a.m. if you want to drop off your dish before church. I’m looking forward to this unique community event. Thank you in advance for your donations and attendance.

Please pray for the sick in our community, for our country, our President and Congress. Although Iran cannot be trusted, please pray for success in the war effort. Praise God for the positive feedback we are getting from the millions of visitors around the world. They are seeing what a marvelous country we have. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families.

Don’t forget the celebrations for the 4th of July. Happy 250th birthday, America.
