Well, I survived another bout of COVID. I’m not sure where I picked it up. No one around me has said anything about being sick. It was a bad bout, but it has left me a little drained. My age may have something to do with the bunce back time. Still, age is just a number, and I choose to pretend mine is lower than it is. You know that mind over matter thing until you get COVID.
Report cards will be out this week. The new benchmarks are supposed to follow your curse curriculum, but I beg to differ. I could have been happier, but so far, the students are working hard, and we will get to our goal. The general air of the school is positive and as usual, the kids are good kids. It’s going to be a long year for me, and I think I’ve finally concluded that it is time for me to retire from fulltime teaching. I was trying for 80. Russ had a cousin, Forest Glaze, who worked into his eighties. I believe either his dad or uncle did quite a bit of the pecan budding in the area. So, I may still make it to 80, but it will have to be as a sub.
The West Texas Tornadoes have withdrawn from this Friday’s home football game. Coach Ethridge is looking for a replacement game but is not sure he can find one in time. The school will keep us informed on Remind. Coach Watkins will be doing the write-ups for the Varsity football games for the paper.
The annual school Book Fair will be this week. Please come out and support our local school library and the classroom teachers. You can start an online account so the students don’t have to carry cash. Please speak with our librarian or visit the bookfair site. Please come by and shop. Open house will take place in the middle of the week.
I watched the Charlie Kirk Memorial in Arizona on Sunday. I did not realize how many young people he had influenced during his short career. The service was outstanding and the love he had for the Lord was made evident by the people who spoke memorializing his life’s work. I sincerely hope they will continue with his programs. Civil discourse and debate is essential to our society. When words stop, violence begins. Respect and civility is the basis for all communications.
We were saddened to hear the news that Jerry Burkhart’s sweet grandmother went to be with her Lord. Our hearts ad prayers go out to the family. Larry Crump has been transferred to the rehab center. Dee Crump will be getting surgery on her wrist. We have several fighting cancer. Bernice Adams is waiting for cataract surgery approval. My Tracy fell again and has done some damage to her head that hit the table. The nurses in the area tell me the new COVID strain is short but causing some gastro issues. Please keep safe and stay home if you have a fever.
Pray for our country, world peace, civility and cooperation within Congress, and rain for our area. I can see lightening from my front window, but it’s northeast of our area. Please pray for the families of the recent police officer deaths. Take care, everyone, and may God bless our precious troops and their families.
