What a beautiful surprise we had today. We had just over two inches of rain over a three-hour period. I never turn down a good rain. The cooler weather allowed me to walk over to my old sewing room and get some sewing done on my grandson’s quilt. I don’t know how long my old house will remain standing, but I’m using it as much as possible. It has no air, only one electrical outlet and no water, but it’s my little refuge. Not many people would want to work in the old house, but I’m a strange person. Sitting in a broken down hundred-year-old house trying to create beautiful quilts is not everyone’s cup of tea. It makes me happy to know the house hat once was a refuge for several families during the Depression years.
Congratulations and best wishes to Panzee Fikes. Miss Panzee celebrated her 95th birthday with family and friends at the Community Center. It was a beautiful outpouring of love and respect for a lady who has served this community with love and dedication.
Best wishes to a super Coyote lady.
The school kids are settling down now they’ve been in school for three weeks. By now teachers have figured out the dynamics of their classes and are making changes to adapt to their student’s needs. The no phones on campus law is going well. There will always be a few who try to dodge the rules, but overall, it’s good. Volleyball has begun, and the girls are one and one. Coach Eckert is rebuilding the team after we lost multiple players last year. We wish her all the best.
The football program under Coach Ethridge lost against Gordan last week. They were forty-fived in the third quarter. That’s not a familiar feeling for our Coyotes. Gordan is a bigger school, but our boys put up a good fight. I heard the boys challenged each other to work harder and get stronger. Their first home game is this Friday.
The Coyote game will be followed by a Fifth Quarter Event at the First Baptist Church. Come out and support our Coyotes. The game wagon will be on site with the latest fan gear for the 2025 season.
The Kid’s Church program will begin on September 10th for students from K-6th grade. Mrs. Perry has sent out flyers and permission sheets for those wishing to attend. If you have a child attending and would like to volunteer to help, please come on the 10th. The ladies quilting group will resume Tuesday meetings on the 9th. If you would like to join, please plan to attend at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. You don’t have to know how to quilt. You can either learn or just come for the Bible study.
We have several upcoming events in September. The RSPS will have a pancake breakfast next Sunday, the 7th, at the Community Center. On September the 28th, RSPS will hold another community potluck lunch at the Community Center. Mark your calendars for the bookfair at the school the week of the 21st. Open house for parents and teachers is scheduled for September the 24th. This is an excellent time to meet your student’s teacher and check out their learning environment.
I haven’t mentioned them recently, but don’t forget our local vendors. They rely on you to keep the doors open. The Coyote General Store, RS BoHo Unique, The Shoppe, Skelton’s Hardware, and McKinnerney’s Real Estate all rely on local shoppers to keep their doors open.
Prayers are needed for Samantha, Laura Skelton Garcia’s daughter; she will begin chemo and radiation. Danny Phillips has a minor surgery date coming soon. There are many more in the area. Please pray for your neighbors and friends. Our country, government, and legislators need prayer as well. Some people don’t believe in prayer, but faced with difficult situations, what else can you do? Our world is in a mess, and the man who seems to want to bring peace to it needs many prayers. Thank you, Lord, for the beautiful rain. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families.
