The Richland Springs Report

Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year. We have a boatload of changes, but hopes and spirits are high that our Coyotes will continue to fight and never die. The state has amended the teacher pay scale which will help teachers a little. The biggest change on the state legislation side will be the no phone usage during the day. This will be uncomfortable for all involved until we get used to the change. Phones will have to be put up in a locked container or they can be kept in the student’s car. Any phone found in the school will be taken up. Please don’t blame the school and shout at teachers. This is a state law. Some proactive schools took phone access measures this past year. Obviously, there are some exceptions for medical alerts. This isn’t a free pass. If the student is found texting or using the phone for communication other than medical, there will have to be consequences. Teachers will have their phones for use in case of emergencies. Parents, please be supportive of your administrative staff and teachers as they implement this new law.

Coach Ethridge is pleased with the progress that he, Coach Watkins, and Coach Aviles are making with our football boys.

Coach Eckert is pleased with the progress and attitude of the volleyball team as well. Coach Ethridge is also working to make sure that there is a write up after games that will be sent to the newspaper. Hopefully, we can keep our community informed of our activities. If you are good at writing, and think you can fill this need, please contact Coach Ethridge. For the moment, Coach Watkins has volunteered to write the information.

Teachers have been on campus since the first of August. Meet the teachers night will be August 6th from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the cafeteria. Please bring your questions and enthusiasm for the new school year. Mr. Faircloth will introduce our new teachers and the new legislation regarding cell phone usage. School starts on the 7th for our students.

I heard Brady received a few inches of rain this past week; but there wasn’t much in my area. I hate to even mention the need for rain, but the truth is the land is dry again. Our enlarged area is still reeling from the floods of early July. During Bible study, the loss of all those children came up. Life on Earth doesn’t make sense at times. My heart grieves for those parents and family members who are grieving for their loved ones. There is no understanding the loss. We can only pray God will help us through the pain.

Many prayers are needed for our country, world peace, our two political parties, our immigrant situation and the general feelings of unrest that keep our lives in turmoil. I’ve said it many times, we need to forget covid tests and start being civil to one another face to face. Every issue has two sides, and both can be debated without ugly words and angry faces. Let’s spend time listening to one another. Please keep the Reeves family in your prayers. Our community is grieving the passing of Johnie Reeves. Covid is making another turn around the area. Please protect yourself and your loved ones. Pray for the families of all the people violently killed this past week. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families.
