The Richland Springs Report

They have been forecasting rain here in Seeleys Bay, Ontario for the last week, but none has arrived. In the meantime I am reading all the posts from San Saba area of the heavy rains and floods. It’s heartbreaking to see and hear of the damage and pain the rain we needed so badly is causing. As usual, our community comes together to help in times of calamity. Thank you to the Howler’s Club, McKinnerney Real Estate, and the wonderful people in our area for the generous check they presented to the San Saba flood victims. My prayers are with them as they work to repair their properties.

In spite of the weather conditions in the area, our community members turned out to support the RSPS Potluck last Sunday. According to Paige Moats, the luncheon was a reprieve from the worry and heartache. Thank you to all who came for fellowship and food. The next meal will be August 24th.

It’s hard to comprehend that school will begin in a few weeks. It seems as if summer has flown by and left us. I am spending two lovely weeks with my sisters and brother. I’m pleased that my baby sister seems to have fully recovered from her cancer operation. I had a short visit with my nephew Jay and his daughter Sloane. I have not seen Sloane since she was five, and now she is 13. It’s so different from our local families who get to visit with family. My grandkids have never met their Canadian cousins. Today’s lifestyle tends to separate everyone especially families.

Speaking of school, along with new administration, we will be dealing with the passage of the bill that prohibits the use of cell phones during the instructional school day. There will be some adaptation for teachers and students. I believe the research supports the decision. Time will tell if the research is proven correct.

The sisters, Bev and Dee, along with yours truly, did our all day shopping trip. There is something special about spending time with loved ones. We compare purchases, asked for advice on “looks” and colors. It’s always followed by a delicious meal out. I feel for my brother-in-law Dave; he’s our boat captain and fishing guide. He is so patient as he changes out lures, pulls our lures out of trees and rocks, and ferries us around the lake looking for the best spots. I love our time on the lake.

I will be back in town next Saturday in time for the back-to-school splash hosted by the First Baptist Church for our returning K - 6th students. This was a popular event two years ago. Don’t forget VBS next week as well.

Enjoy your family around you, cherish your time with family and friends and please be friendly and civil, even when you totally disagree with them. Take care of your community members especially your elders.

Please, pray for and help, the many people who have been devastated by the floods in our area. Pray for peace and civility in our government, the world, and our enforcement officers. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families. I’m headed to the boat to try a new lure. See you next week.
