The Richland Springs Report

My beautiful family trip to Greece came to a crashing halt at the airport last Wednesday. Eighteen months ago, I posted all my papers and made note of the fact that it was recommended to have six months remaining on my passport. I got busy and forgot that little fact. So, as my family prepared to board their flight, I argued to no avail that my passport was still good even if it didn’t have six months on it. Through tears I kissed my family goodbye and called Russ to come back and get me. I tried to get an expedited passport, but I couldn’t even get an online appointment. I had one nice lady in Dallas try to find an appointment, but nothing was available.

Knowing it’s my fault does not lessen the sadness that fills my heart when I think of 10 loved ones sailing without me. The picture I sent with the Parthenon in the background was supposed to have everyone in red and me in white. The original picture taken many years ago everyone was in white, and I didn’t get the memo and turned up in red. So, this year, everyone was to wear red, and I would wear white as a little joke. I have 10 days of sailing outfits all planned out. I intend to wear my outfits and take a picture to match whatever everyone else is wearing. It’s a small protest and a chance to be part of the trip. Life goes on even during a period of unhappiness. I will send some pictures as the kids send them to me.

I heard the school’s STAAR results were outstanding. That makes me happy.

Mr. Womack, Mrs. Wyatt, and the school board set about fixing the problems we had with our academic classes. They wanted certified teachers and order in the school. The school board, Mr. Kirby and Mrs. Wilson followed up on those goals by hiring certified teachers or insisting that all new teachers be certified in their teaching field by the end of the year. This caused issues with some teachers but was long overdue. I saw the article about the school issues in last week’s paper. I support President Gunner Mann in his statements. Richland Springs ISD will not close. Whether our parents are pro sports or pro academics, they have the same goal. That goal is to have strong academics and a great sports program. No one wants the school to close. Tempers get a little high when issues affect kids. We all have one goal and that is to make our school strong and our kids successful. Mrs. Wilson will keep our students and staff on track for school success. Coyotes fight…never die.

Don't forget the Men's Prayer Breakfast in the Tabernacle this Saturday at 7:00 am.

The Siler family needs prayer. Avanell fell and broke her back, and David is battling cancer. Johnny Reeves is still battling cancer. Candi Lusty is recovering from back surgery, Troy Soto needs prayers, Micki Allen is in the nursing home recovering from a fall. Our prayers also go out to the Rogers family as Shawn takes up his new position in Grady. We wish the family all the best.

Our country needs prayers; we still need more rain in this area, although our neighbors have overflowing creeks. We pray that President Trump and his cabinet can bring some sense to the fighting parties around the world. We need calmer heads to prevail around the world. Please pray for our border patrol and ICE agents.

Most of all pray for our precious troops and their families.

You can find a photo of Sue’s family on the trip later this week on our website www.sansabanews.com.
