As we enter this Thanksgiving week, our hearts naturally turn to the reasons why we are such a blessed people. We don’t have to search far to realize how fortunate we are to live in this wonderful country. I hope we take time to look around at our elderly and handicapped and share our blessings. The Skeltons extended family will host the second annual Thanksgiving meal for the community. All families or shut ins are welcome to attend. If you cannot come in person, please call the hardware store, and speak with Laura or Richard, or the City Hall, and speak with Chris or Kristy, and they will arrange to deliver a meal to your home. We are thankful to this family for their generosity.
Friday will be our next football game against Oglesby. The game will be at the Belton stadium. The game will start at 2:00 p.m. Make it a day and go out to eat at your favorite restaurant either before or after the game. Tickets must be purchased online. Rmd.me/Yu.jpNT419V is the link. Let’s turn out and support our athletes. I suspect we will need to dress warmly. The weatherman says a high of 60 degrees. My body doesn’t like 60 degrees. Go Coyotes.
Chris and Kristy Perry have organized the Samaritan’s Purse shoe box drive for the last few years. Even in the face of inflation, they were able to send off 51 boxes from the First Baptist Church. The Wednesday Church Kid’s Group helped fill the boxes. It’s as much fun watching the kids fill the boxes as it is to send them away. Hopefully as the young ones get older, they will remember and do this for themselves.
The ladies of the Graceful Quilter’s group traveled to Cherry Springs Quilts for a four-day retreat. Seven ladies spent time fellowshipping, working, and turning out many beautiful quilts.
Five of the ladies Kathy, Debbie, Toni, Lynda, Sue, were from Richland, but two ladies came from a Center Point quilting group, Sherry, and Terry. Sarah, the owner of the retreat, has designed the perfect retreat building. Every wall is a design wall. That may not mean anything to the average person, but to a quilter, it’s a dream venue. The quality of her facility is obvious since she is booked until 2026. I can’t wait for the next retreat.
There seems to be an air of hopeful anticipation after our recent elections. Only time will tell whether that pans out, but we need change, and our world needs some strong leadership from the United States to keep peace. If for some reason, our hopes are not fulfilled, there will be another election in two years and again in four. That’s the beauty of our system of government.
Apparently, we have a resurgence of whopping cough in the area. In my circle of friends, we have RSV, Covid and my favorite, sinus infections. All of those serve to keep the people around me snuffling and coughing. Please be sure to keep yourself safe and stay home if you can spread your sickness. My fatherin- law had severe allergies; his cure was to run the sickness out of his body. I’m going to try that and see if I can get rid of my cough.
Please pray for our sick, our shut-ins, our country, our border and our incoming men and women who won recent elections.
Especially pray for our incoming President. Pray for our open border and for those countries at war. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families. If you have the means, please stop by the Angel Tree, and bless a child for Christmas. Also, don’t forget the Christmas Market in Richland Springs this Saturday. The Beautification Committee has organized a talented group of vendors to help with your early Christmas list.
