The Richland Springs Report

Just when I thought it would never rain again, along came this wonderful blessing. We received close to two inches. My trees will be happy. Better still, area ranchers and farmers will be happy. The Weather Channel says we will get more this evening.

Notice to all grandparents: This Friday is Grandparents Day at the school. Grandparents and friends of the family are invited to share our lunchtime. The meal is five dollars for all guests. If you are an honorary grandparent, please make the time to visit with our school students.

Monday, the girls’ junior high volleyball team travels to Strawn. Tuesday, the Varsity girls will compete at Lakeview.

Friday is our second home game versus Bryan St. Joseph Catholic School. The game begins at 7 p.m. A Fifth Quarter gathering at the First Baptist Church will follow the football game. The First Baptist and Shiloh Churches will provide food. For anyone who missed last week’s game, the final score was 56 – 0. So, please come out and support our teams.

Saturday, varsity volleyball travels to San Angel at 11 a.m., and junior high will attend the Wall Tournament. Youth football will travel to Gorman and play Zephyr.

On the academic side, progress reports go out this week. Students on the failing list have two weeks to get their grades brought up to passing level.

I can’t believe we are almost through the first six weeks.

This Tuesday, the quilting ladies will resume weekly meetings. The project for 2024-2025 is a charm pack quilt. The study book for this year is I Surrender All by Priscilla Shirer. Everyone is welcome, and you can come for the book study only. You can learn to quilt or bring your knitting. The goal is to gather as Christian women and explore God’s Word.

Wednesday, the elementary kids will resume Kids’ Church meetings. Time for that is 4:10 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Vans will be available to bring the kids back to campus for football and cheer practice. Youth meetings, (grades 6-12), will be held by Shiloh at 6:30 p.m. FCA meetings will also resume in the Tech lab at 8:25 a.m.

We’re all inundated with political ads and phone calls. This is the official election kick-off season. I urge you to study the party platforms and see where your personal beliefs unite.

This election is not about two people; it’s about two ways of governing our country. Whichever way you lean, please get out and vote.

We continue to pray for Johnny Reeves as he fights cancer. Walter Stratton has sailed through his first shoulder surgery and is headed towards number two. He’s enjoying the freedom of movement. So many more are fighting cancer and other serious diseases.

Please keep our community embers in your prayers.

Pray for our country, our President and presidential elections, the unrest around the world. Burn bans are still in place, and many areas here in the Southwest have been devastated by fires. God, bless our firefighters.

Please keep our school and teachers in your prayers. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families.
