The Richland Springs Report

I watched in dismay this last week as the Friday storms blew back the roof tin on my old house. The last big rainstorm did the original damage, but I couldn’t quite figure out how to make the repairs. Not many people want to climb an old two-story house to fix a holey tin roof. It may sound silly, but I prayed that God would protect that poor beautiful old house. Some folks would say He didn’t come through because the roof peeled back again, but I am happy. Although part of the roof was laid over, we had no massive rains or tornadoes to finish off the roof. So, Saturday, Russ and I made a temporary fix.

I can’t say I was happy to climb that ladder to tack the tin down, but between us, the job was completed.

This is the week teachers and parents face the ravages of a Halloween sugar high. We deserve every happy hyper minute, after all, we are the ones to supply all that sugar! We now hit the eating season. There are banquets, parties and holiday feasts filled with deliciously fattening foods to wade through. I’m afraid I am wasting the GoLo diet.

The winning streak of our volleyball girls came to a halt last week. The girls lost their area match. They have had an amazing run for first year players. We look forward to greater things next year. The call has been put out for a tailgate party in the west parking lot of Goldthwaite Middle School next Friday at 6 p.m. The Coyotes will take on the Zephyr Bulldogs on their next step to the finals. Come out and root for our Coyotes athletes. Basketball is underway. There are games this week here in Richland. It’s a cheap date with excitement galore. If you haven’t seen the updated gym, thanks to Mr. Womack, this is your big chance. There are always ways to volunteer at the school; just call Mrs. Wyatt and offer your time and talents.

I have one student coming for tutoring on Monday. This is a free service I’m offering from 2-4:30. The sessions should be about 30 minutes. I’m good with everything except higher math. Parents K-9 should be prepared to stay since the time is short. Once my time is full, I will have to rethink the schedule. My time is free for our sweet Coyotes.

The 3rd-4th grade boys are headed to the Superbowl. This group of talented future Coyote MVPs are having a super season. Watch the school page for time and date of the Superbowl.

I’m an excited mom; all my kids will be home around the 18th, including Shane and Earnie from Costa Rica, to attend my 75th birthday.

I can’t remember the last time that happened. This weekend, I was blessed by a visit from my oldest granddaughter, Danielle. Once our kids start on their future paths, visits are few and far between. At least with my kids that appears to be the scenario. My wanderlust has filtered down to my grandkids. None of them live close by. Most are planning more distant homes. I may be making more visits to Alaska next year. My youngest granddaughter, Sarah, has moved to Boston. I love Boston; it is so historic and picturesque. Perhaps I can get to Canada via Boston next time.

I hope and pray everyone went to vote. By now the results, for the most part, will be out, and one side or the other will be claiming victory. To be a part of that victory, you had to have voted. Remember, if you don’t cast your vote, you have given it to the opposite party. It’s like salvation; the choice is automatic. If you don’t choose a side, Jesus, or Satan, you have by default chosen Satan.

Please join the right team. Please keep the Larremore and Tharp families in your prayers. The prayer lists on all churches are long especially at this time of the year. Pray for our Congress, President and new members who won elections. Pray for our border and most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families.
