Saturday was the soft opening for the new RS Bo Ho Unique. Overall, the comments were positive, and everyone who came in bought something. There is something for everyone. I will be making little Christmas baskets with items from their store. There will be a constant turnover, so if you see something you like, you better get it or you will be out of luck. The ladies are still working details out. The grand opening will most likely be the weekend of the Christmas event in town. Jackie and Chrissy are working their way through hours of business as well. The store is an asset to our small town, and hopefully, they will get a steady influx of customers.
Another asset is the purchase of the old Annie’s house on Main Street. I’m positive the neighbors across the street are pleased that the eyesore is being cleaned up. The work is not done, but what a difference a week has made.
Homecoming was a hoot as usual. This was Jackie and Chuck’s first Richland homecoming, and they were delighted. Jackie went upstairs and took dozens of photos from the upstairs window. The Howler’s Club thanked the Lohn seniors for giving up their own homecoming to make ours happen by presenting them with a $1,000 donation to their senior class. They will also award one senior a $500 scholarship in May. The young man who was hurt in the game is doing fine. After a long and anxious delay, the EMT personnel allowed him to get up and walk to the ambulance on his own. A sigh of relief and applause saluted this young man.
The Richland Springs Beautification Committee was able to spruce up the park last month thanks to a generous mulch donation from Home Depot in Brownwood. They followed up this success with the pancake breakfast on Sunday. Chef services were performed by Frank Pearce. The committee replanted the downtown pots with winter hardy plants thanks to the help of Ann Christian and Carol Bryant.
None of these things could be done without the generous support of the community. Paige Moats and the committee have now turned their attention to the fourth annual Christmas Market scheduled for November 26th. This event highlights many local artisans and outside vendors.
Between the new store and this event, we should all be able to knock out some unique Christmas gifts. Please be sure to mark your calendars. Remember, shop locally and save your gas.
We were saddened to hear of the passing of Jolyn Tharp. Please be in prayer for her family. The funeral for Stanley Larremore will be Saturday the 5th. Please keep the White, and James Gibson family in prayer. We have many others on the prayer list. I’m saddened by the spate of funerals we have had recently. That means there are grieving families that need comfort.
Please lift our country, our government, and our border in prayer. To date, the total of immigrants crossing the border illegally is equal to the population of Canada’s largest city, Toronto. The numbers are staggering and costly. We are entering our holiday season; please share your love and concern for those in need.
Operation Shoebox gifts are due by November the 13th. This is also the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s posting of the 95 Theses that started the Protestant Reformation. Stay close to one another and be kind. Life is too short for stress and strife. God bless each of you, and pray for our precious troops and their families.
