Welcome to 2023. Our media is full of resolutions and selfimprovement ideas for the new year. For a few months, exercise clubs and diet systems will be overloaded with folks who want to work to get healthier or improve their mental outlook on life. Then March comes and everything peters out. I don’t want to be a naysayer, but I stopped pretending I was going to lose 30 pounds just because we started a new year. Resolutions need to be a year-round habit, not once a year. Good luck to those of you who are younger and more enthusiastic.
The stock show and youth fair are this weekend. Academic entries need to be turned in Thursday, judging will take place Thursday night, and participants and visitors can view the entries Friday. Covid put a crimp in the entries last year, but I’m hoping all our local schools will send in multiple entries. I realize the timing is awkward since we have just returned to school after a long break, but please teachers, send in your entries. Good luck to all contestants.
I want to remind our young chefs that if they want to come to the church Wednesday and use the church ovens to make their entry, please let Mrs. Starr know. There will be ladies there to provide advice and monitor the ovens, but they cannot do your work. Remember you need to have a recipe neatly printed for the judges. It helps to make it look pretty and appetizing.
Mrs. Kubin was looking for parent volunteers to help in the concession for the games this week and next. Please contact her at the school. If you have time, please check with the school or your church to see where you can be of assistance. Both organiza-tions appreciate any help they can get.
Wednesday Church will resume for the K-6 kids on Wednesday the 11th.
There are plenty of opportunities at Shiloh and First Baptist for the community to meet.
All businesses in town experienced a Christmas boost, please keep the visits going. Skelton’s Hardware carries everything you need plus a selection of groceries. Bo Ho Unique carries spices, coffee, honey, housewares, and clothing. The Coyote Store has great milkshakes and coffees as well as a gift store and grocery store. The Feedlot is still making pizzas, but the business is up for sale. Mann Glass is the, I mean THE, place for your glass needs, and McKinnerney Real Estate is the place to go for you real estate needs. You can also support The Friends of Animals by dropping off your aluminum cans and any other materials related to animal rescue. I have a crate I need to take to Michelle. Please support your local merchants.
The county is mourning the loss of Larry Nettleship. He went to be with his Lord Christmas Day. Our prayers and thoughts go out to his family. The sick lists at our local churches are long, and many need prayer. Lesa Larremore is in the hospital with pneumonia. Monte Butler is having heart issues as well as Herman Luce. Put your neighbors and friends on your prayer list.
Please pray for our country, our President, our government, and its spending, and for the return of respect and civil discourse in our country. Have a great week. Welcome to 2023. Most of all pray for our precious troops and their families.
