The Richland Springs Report

Surprise, surprise, I hear rain on my roof. There is also a beautiful big rainbow across the road at the Faught place. It ends right in his pasture. I wonder if the pot of gold is there. I wasn’t expecting any rain, so this is a blessing. Chrissy says she has been singing 'I’ve built a boat; bring on the rain' for the last hour. Whatever the cause, thank you, Lord.

The drought has caused another issue: sap bugs. There are different local names for them, but the bottom line is the leaves are being decimated by the bugs and sap is everywhere. Everything in my yard is nasty and sticky. This rain will be good for cleaning some of the sap off my chairs.

There is a workday on Tuesday for the Preservation Society. Jason Lewis posted it for anyone who wanted to come out and put stuff in a dumpster. Todd Lewis donated his dumpster, and it can only stay for a day. Anytime you want to volunteer, simply call Chrissy Baker, or go by the post office, and she can help you. Jason will post notices on Facebook when major events are planned. As you can see from the photos attached to this column, it’s coming together. Chrissy, Bobby, and I were working on the floors. The electricians hired by Franky Soto finished their work on Sunday. I can’t wait for the grand opening of the new store. I will send more photos once the floors are done, and the merchandise arranged for viewing.

The Coyotes are continuing their winning streak in football, volleyball, and peewee sports. You can’t keep that Coyote spirit down for long.

I’m loving being semi-retired. I’m teaching in Brownwood at the Cross Classical Academy two days a week. I really enjoy older kids, and teaching eighth grade government and writing is a blast. I get my teaching fix and I’m free to help in different areas. Which brings me to Mondays...I would like to start tutoring on Monday afternoons at the First Baptist Church. It would have to be by appointment. The time would be from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. I don’t know that I have an age preference, but I’m not competent to teach high school math, physics, and chemistry. Anything else, I can cover. I would like to start that in October.

Kid’s Church Wednesday was awesome. We had 29 K-5 students and five 7-11 students as helpers. Judging by the happy faces, all went well.

If you want to assist, please come Wednesday and I will find a place for you to help.

Please keep the Sofgee family in your prayers as well as George Hill who has been put on hospice care. We have a lengthy list of illness.

Please take a little time to pray for our country, your community, and our school. Mr. Womack has made some great property changes. I pray for peace all the time. It seems illusive and not possible, but God is good. Have a wonderful week, everyone. Don’t forget to support your local vendors.
