The Richland Springs Report

I completed as many outdoor jobs as I could last week, knowing that this week is back to winter weather. I am not good with cold weather. I don’t mind cool evenings and nights, but let my days be above 70. The cold doesn’t help with winter sicknesses either. The medical profession is stressing over this tridemic stuff. It’s hitting the schools hard, but thankfully it passes quickly.

There is a full slate of activities this week. There are junior high and varsity basketball games on Monday starting at 10 in the morning.

Tuesday there is a 6:00 p.m. game for varsity girls. Friday, the lady Coyotes have a game against Iron Country, and the boys have a TBD game as well. All teams have practices during the week before and after school. Although school will be out for the Christmas break, I’m sure there will be tournaments over the holidays.

Wednesday, the Kid’s Church at First Baptist will meet for their last meeting until after the Christmas break. They have gifts donated by the Army Reserve group that work with Brother Mack. They will watch the movie Star, eat pizza, and sing Christmas carols.

The school play, New York, under the direction of Sarah Locker, was presented Monday December 12th in the Cafetorium. This is a dinner/play event. Dinner began at 5:30 p.m., and the play followed. This is the major annual fundraiser for the theatre group.

On Sunday the 18th, the First Baptist Church is opening their doors to all who would like to share in a candlelight service at 5 p.m., to be followed by a complimentary meal. Share the joy of Christmas with members of the community. You do not have to be a member of the church. This is First Baptist’s gift to the community.

I do not have all the UIL Academic results yet, but I was told that William and Lucas Oldham took the chess award for their age group.

That’s impressive. Ian Haug was talked into entering three writing events and took home first place in all three. He also placed first in the science competition. I will publish more as they become available.

Overall, the elementary group placed second and junior high placed third. We are proud of our students.

The quilting ladies had their annual Christmas party on the 6th. This year all ladies were asked to bring only one home-made gift.

Apparently, the gifts were appreciated because there was quite a bit of stealing going on. Food, friends, laughter, and love make a wonderful event.

Don't forget the Fire Department is accepting toys and other gifts for our local families.

Remember to use our local businesses for your needs. It not only saves gas, but it keeps our local stores open.

Please pray for our country, our unity, our political process, and our government. Remember our friends who have lost family members this holiday season. Pray for our sick in the area and spread as much cheer and love as you can. Jesus is the reason for the season. Most of all, pray for all our young men and women whose service keeps them away from their families. Have a blest week.
