The Richland Springs Report

I just returned from a lovely three-day quilting retreat in Stonewall.

For those of you who think we sit and talk all day, please let me disabuse you of that notion. Although we talk as we work, there is non-stop sewing and creating happening. It's going to take me several days to recuperate from sitting hunched up over a sewing machine. We were a smaller group this time: Kathy Brockman, Kathy Davey, Bea Soto, and a newcomer Marie, plus yours truly. Marie is an up-and-coming young woman heading to Hong Kong with her family. I'm excited for her. I'm sure Hong Kong has changed, but it is a beautiful place. Our hostess, Kay Huffman, and her daughter, Carolyn, kept us well fed and comfortable. I love this retreat. I strongly encourage you to come with us next time.

We missed the local Farmer's Market on Saturday. I'm told no vendors came, so there was nothing to buy. May I encourage all you entrepreneurs and craftspeople to bring your goods to the parking lot at the Church of Christ and make your goods available. I realize it will take time, but only you can make it successful. We need goods to sell and people to buy. The only criteria is to make it yourself - food, produce, canned goods, metal work, sewing goods. If you make it at home, bring it to sell. Jason Lewis is working hard to promote this new Richland Springs activity. Speaking of Richland Springs activities, Skelton's Harware has new vending machines. And don't forget to visit The Coyote Store and The Feedlot. Support our local vendors.

We will be getting a new postmistress shortly. Chrissy Baker is training this week and will begin serving us shortly. We're excited that we have someone local who might possibly stay with us for a long time. With gas prices so high, we need someone local to serve our community.

I hope everyone in the community concerned with their child's welfare noticed the post put out by the new Superintendent about school security measures. For a small, town we have had excellent security, but the new measures approved by the school board will make the school even safer. It will be a little inconvenient for those who are used to showing up and knocking for admittance, but it will keep our students and staff safer.

Plans are in the making for the fourth of July celebrations. If you plan to have a float or be in the parade, it's time to get it ready.

VBS will take place the week of July 18-22. Information will be available on the fourth of July. There are no Wednesday church services for the little ones until after VBS.

I'm going to shorten the prayer list this week. All four churches, Shiloh, Church of Christ, First Christian, and First Baptist Church, have lists that require urgent prayer. I ask that you pray unspoken prayers for those who are sick and hurting. The Valdez family and the Phelan family have lost loved ones and need comfort and prayer. Many families are facing financial issues as inflation continues to climb. Putting food on the table is becoming more difficult. Please remember that the Baptist Church has a food pantry open to the community if you need assistance. Please remember our country, our president, the Ukrainians, our porous border, and our security forces. Most of all, pray for our precious troops and their families. Lord, please let us have more rain. Stay cool, everyone, and check on your elderly neighbors.
