Post office customers here in Richland were shocked to hear of the passing of Scot, our postmaster. His cheerful attitude, patriotic pride, and desire to serve his customers made him a star to all who entered the post office. If you had a parcel to mail to a soldier, he would find the best and fastest way to get it to them. He proudly displayed the American flag as well as the MIA/POW every day. He was a hero, a patriot, a servant, and a wonderful man. He will be missed. We send our condolences to his family.
The Preservation Committee met on Saturday and elected a new slate of officers. Sherry Winter is the President, and she brings drive and energy to this organization. The meeting had about 16 people who were more than eager to take part in the activities planned. They anticipate several unique fundraisers to help with repairs to the old bank building and other areas in town. A mini mall with local vendors is on the books, and the students in the National Honor Society will assist with the planned clean-up. I will write more about their plans in future issues. The variety store will have a sell out soon. All items will be sold at a low cost. Keep your eyes open for a flyer from Sherry.
The Stagecoach is planning a trial run for breakfast this coming Saturday. Based on the response, they will either continue serving breakfast at 7 a.m., or they will shelve the idea. So, if you are interested, please show up Saturday morning starting at 7 a.m.
Mr. Pearce advised us that new street signs had been ordered and will be installed as soon as they arrive. The Winter’s family thought they lived on Old Cemetery Road only to find out they live on Brown Street. Maybe my students will be able to give me their addresses now, instead of next to the Spurlock house, or down the street from the Miller place. Let’s keep our small town alive and kicking.
Earl Patrick was transported to the VA in Temple. The Alan Taylor family is recovering from illness. Mondo Garcia’s mother and father are both ill. It was a joy to see Micki and Ricky Allen in church today. Kathy Brockman has a lovely new granddaughter.
Please pry for our country, our government, world turmoil and the horrible attacks on our police officers. As a nation we mourn for these fallen heroes. We desperately need rain, and there appears to be little or no promise for us. Please continue to pray for this pandemic, but most of all pray for our precious troops and their families. Have a wonderful week.
