Dee Crump has had to step down from her position as recording secretary, Until we can find someone to fill her excellent shoes, I’m it. I encourage someone who has a talent for passing information to come and exercise those talents.

In the meantime, the progress on the bank building continues. In fact, the next meeting will take place in the old bank building so that everyone can see the progress being made. A new ceiling has been put up, and Paige Mats picked a lovely heritage green paint for the walls. The latest downpour caused a small leak in the front windows that can be easily fixed. Once that is done, we can work on restoring the floor.

I have suggested that we put our beautiful Christmas decorations up in the empty 1910 Store. It is weatherproof and spacious enough to contain the decorations. This will free up the space to start putting up some of our historic materials.

I would love to see more participation at our meetings, but I am overwhelmed with gratefulness for the number of people who come to the luncheons and share their food and company with us. The donations from those luncheons is the key to keeping the bank restoration going. Members from our area churches and community members are so generous. Typically, we receive close to one thousand dollars at each luncheon. We have tried to use the money wisely.

I’ve been asked about a plaque for those who have donated money for window replacement. We still have several to replace, but all donations, past and present, are being recorded and we will honor those who have donated so generously.

At our next meeting in July, we will cover some of the expenses our recent repairs have incurred. Thank you so much, Paige and Franky, for all your hard work. I can’t wait for everyone to see the restored “look.”

See you all soon. Happy 250th birthday, America. We’re trying to fix our little corner of history.
