Hey there, my adorable San Saba loves! Yes, you are hearing from me again, but mom told me about something near and dear to my heart…San Saba has a new animal shelter!
Did you guys know I am a rescue dachshund? I was found running the streets of Georgia, alone, skinny, in horrible condition, terrified, and so lost! I ended up in a shelter owned by a lady in Georgia who happened to know mom from an online dachshund group. It was mom’s dachshund friends on Facebook who decided I belonged in Texas with mom, secretly donated money to pay Lori and Jim’s expenses to drive from Georgia to deliver me to my forever home in the Houston area.
The day mom opened the door to her heart and let me in was the greatest day of my life! Building a shelter is amazing, but what has to happen to make sure it serves its purpose is for humans to see an animal’s heart, their warm blooded worth and not as a thing they own without feeling, thought or worth.
Mom would stand in court under oath and testify I know how to tell time, am as adept as a physician at knowing when she isn’t well and how to ease any hurt a friend may cause. My ridiculous dachshund antics bring her so much laughter her waist is inches smaller and I am considering designing my own exercise plan! In addition, as often as I make her get up to provide me with treats during the day, I certainly keep those legs moving and her blood circulating. However, the most important thing, I am mom’s best friend. Humans have a tendency to fail each other. They get wrapped up in their own world of inadequacies, doubts, struggles, all the while striving so hard to attain what they perceive as success and status and seem to forget the people who put their heart out there to help along the way.
We rescue dogs never forget! So should circumstance arise when you find yourself at a loss as what to do with a dog you are not able to manage… stop thinking like a human and think like that dog and find it a temporary home and warm lap as it would for you!
With all my love, Lenny
