Happy 250th Birthday, America! This Independence Day marks a truly historic occasion as our nation celebrates 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence—a remarkable milestone honoring the birth of the greatest experiment in freedom the world has ever known. For two and a half centuries, brave men and women have defended the liberties we enjoy today, and this past weekend we celebrated not only our nation's history but also the values of faith, family, freedom, and community that continue to make America strong.
Here in Richland Springs, there's no better place to celebrate than our annual Stars & Stripes Celebration. It's a tradition that brings generations together and showcases the very best of small-town America. From the parade and family activities to an evening sky filled with spectacular fireworks, many of us believe Richland Springs hosts the finest Fourth of July fireworks celebration in the great State of Texas. Whether you're a lifelong resident or returning home for the holiday, everyone is invited to come celebrate America's birthday the Richland Springs way—with friends, neighbors, and plenty of patriotic pride.
A special birthday celebration was held a week ago Saturday afternoon honoring Jean Beakley on her 94th birthday. Bethany and Marilyn Suber joined Jean and several members of her family for an afternoon filled with wonderful food, warm fellowship, and lots of reminiscing. Jean's son, Steve, traveled from Odessa and treated everyone to a scrumptious homemade cobbler that was enjoyed by all. Her son, Mike, was also there from Colorado, making the family gathering even more special. It was a joyful occasion as everyone celebrated Jean's birthday and wished her many more happy and healthy years. Happy 94th Birthday, Jean!
Speaking of birthdays, it hardly seems possible, but twins Leland and Lincoln are already one month old! These two precious little boys continue to be a wonderful blessing to their family and are bringing so much joy to everyone who knows them. We wish them good health, happiness, and many treasured memories as they continue to grow.
As we continue to celebrate America's 250th birthday during this season, I can't help but reflect on the many blessings we enjoy because of the men and women who have faithfully served our country throughout its history. My son, Rod, left the US Tuesday with the United States Navy for a deployment to the Middle East, where he serves alongside his squadron in support of the pilots and their mission. Like so many military families, we will miss him dearly while taking comfort in knowing he is answering a call to serve something greater than himself.
I hope we'll all pause for a moment to remember those standing watch around the world. The freedoms we celebrated this weekend have never been free—they have been earned and protected by generations of brave Americans willing to serve and sacrifice. Please keep Rod, his squadron, and all of our military men and women, veterans, and their families in your prayers. May God bless them, and may God continue to bless the United States of America.
