I hope everyone had a happy and restful Labor Day holiday. I can remember how much we always looked forward to Labor Day when school had just begun. After the excitement and rush of those first few weeks—new schedules, early mornings, practices, homework, and everything else that comes with getting back into a routine—it always seemed to arrive at just the right time. Labor Day gave everyone a chance to slow down a little, catch their breath, and enjoy an extra day with family and friends before settling back into the busy fall season.
My grandkids live here on the place and on Sunday afternoons around four o’clock, they usually come down to spend a few hours with me. We bake, visit, and I fix them their favorite pancake supper. They usually stay until around 7:30, which gives their mom a little break and some quiet time to get ready for the week ahead. The kids love their Sunday evenings at Moosey’s, and I have to admit, I look forward to those pancake suppers just as much as they do.
One of the greatest blessings of living here on the ranch is having my grandkids so close by. Their house is just up the hill, and I love it when they walk down to see me—which they do often. Callie says Warren, who is four, will wake up on Saturday or Sunday mornings and ask, “Can I go to Moosey’s?” He is down here every chance he gets, and I just soak it all up because I know how quickly these years pass and how fast they grow up. One of our family jokes is that when the kids are ready to come down to my house—or when they are ready to head back home—they say, “Call an Uber!” Their “Uber,” of course, is usually Maddox driving them back and forth in the side-by-side. It always makes me laugh, and it is just one more little memory I know I will treasure for years to come.
Their dad, Kal, is a proud Richland Springs Coyote himself, graduating from Richland Springs in 2009. He began his law enforcement career as a DPS trooper, later worked undercover, and today serves as a Texas Ranger for Brown County and several surrounding counties. I am incredibly proud of the way he has worked his way up and of the man he has become. Coyotes fight, never die.
The Graceful Quilters meet each Tuesday at 4 o’clock at the Richland Springs First Baptist Church, and we are excited to be kicking off our fall season with a little field trip. Today, we are heading to Brady to visit the quilt shop, do a little shopping, and then enjoy supper together at one of the Mexican food restaurants there. It is always such a good time of fellowship with a wonderful group of Christian women. I also want to remind everyone that our regular Tuesday meetings at the church are Bible study only—we do not quilt on Tuesdays. You certainly do not have to be a quilter to come and join us. If you are looking for a place to study the Bible, enjoy good fellowship, and spend time with some sweet ladies, we would love to have you. The more, the merrier.
